Beetle's being unloaded in Tasmania

Unsure of the date of this photo,

Brand new Beetle's being unloaded,
note lack of bumpers and hubcaps as common practice in shipping cars,

Hard to tell what models, you can see the car over to the right has a small back window? maybe an oval? There is no indicators on the front guards


I wonder if they have come from the Cayton VW factory or from overseas?

they are early models, small windscreen [oval] and the old truck is a FODEN ...

I thought it odd to remove the bumpers as all the pics I've seen from the VW factories in Germany and Australia all had the bumpers on.. I believe they were removed so more beetles would fit into the cargo hold...
better to have to replace a bumper than the nose of a beetle

Where did they come from???
Germany?? fully imported.. I believe so...

this is long before the Clayton VW Australasia plant...
