Guidelines for posting nudity

I am not a prude and I detest censorship (and have been an active member of the EFA for some time now). But...

a) there are people under the age of 18 on this forum and I don't want to screen them out because of one or two posts

b) I don't want to have to implement an AVS (adult verification system) to comply with Australian law which prohibits R rated material (in the view of professional classifiers at the ABA, and not me, Brad or Jim) from being posted on public forums

c) There are some members of this forum who don't like to see this stuff, and no longer come in here for that reason. That's a terrible indictment of the nudie posts, and obviously something I'd like to see changed as this place is for everyone, not just a few.

So basically, the rules are this:

* If you have an image with naked people, think three times about posting it. Sit on the image for 24 hours. If in doubt, don't post it here. Post it to the people you know who will enjoy it.

* If you have to post, post tasteful and artful nudes of mature people only (ie no kids), and it better have something to do with a VW.

* If I see pink bits or tumescent men (ie stiffies) or another brand of car, the thread is deleted, and you get a warning. Three warnings and you're off.

* Anything hardcore is a banning without warning offence.

I don't want to do the last one, but according to the Broadcasting amendments law as it stands today, hard core is rated RC, and not even an AVS will save this site from a permanent take down notice.

I fought and campaigned hard against this law, so I hope you understand why I have to reluctanctly do this. But as it is law, we can't simply ignore it.

Lastly, to the guys (cos it is guys) who post the nudie pics, before posting please think about our underage members who get so much out of this site (and not just the nudie bits), and the members who don't like this stuff. This is a forum for everyone, not just a few.

The problem with the law is that it has no "out" clauses. If we say yes to "R" rated porn , we have to implement an AVS and then as everyone signs back up to prove they are over 18, the kids who own and love VW's miss out. And more than likely we'll get an exclusively male readership, thus losing our female members such as Jay.

I think there's too much to lose by saying yes to pr0n in this instance.

If you want pr0n, it is available everywhere on the Internet. For example, use http://www.AdultCheck.com  to find whatever your heart desires. If you can't find a site that deals with chicks with VW's, I'd be surprised. And there's an opening for any of our enterprising members if there's no-one in that market already.

There has never been anything remotely "R" rated.
There has, however, been agreement as to what can & can't be put here for quite some time.
And one of those deemed acceptable is the one you have deleted.

As for the adults only section, XMB doesn't support masking off some forums with passwords (and not others), so we'd have to implement it as a seperate folder using standard Apache htauth. That section wouldn't look like here, and it wouldn't have any nav aids unless a thumbnailer could be found (which I am sure there could be). But with so much else broken on here, this is so far down the wish list of stuff to fix, it'll be a while.

Self-regulation wasn't WORKING JUST FINE - I was acting upon two complaints as well as protecting our collective arse.

If you can squeeze your images into anything between G and M, it's acceptable. If the girl's bits had not been visible, that splitty image would be an M, and it would have stayed. Simple as that.

You don't know how painful making the call to delete the image was. Here I am fighting the good cause to eliminate censorship, and then on the other hand acting like a total hypocrite in more ways in one - not only do I end up censoring people I like, I do like a bit of pr0n myself. I hate this friggen law, but it's the law.

To re-iterate, if we allow MA images on a regular basis, we have to legally screen out under 15 year olds and we need to make sure that the 15-17 year olds have parental permission to use our web site, which requires an AVS, so MA is off limits simply due to being completely impractical to implement. R requires an AVS and no members under 18 (which is a terrible waste). X can get us taken off air. And RC - I will help the police find any person who posts a RC image here.

Lastly, spook is not the only member here. There are 273 members. We have to make this place work for all of them, not just you, me and spook. There are literally millions of pr0n sites on the net, including at least one that caters for the VW fetisher (volkszone.co.uk).

Grab a copy of the issues paper, and make comment on it. I am, and hopefully everyone who actually cares about getting rid of censorship will do so too.

This is the problem with censorship. I actually agree with you guys as I've stated right from the start (but unhappily, you're ignoring). The "moral" minority from the 1950's lead by the Prime Miniature forced this godawful legislation on us, and we have to live with along with the luddite Alston as IT minister.

A few years ago, a poll said that 80% of respondants agreed that cable TV should be able to show R and X rated programs. What did we get? Adult movies with heavily cut soft porn. Boring.

Censorship never works, this thread is living proof of it. But the law says that we have do X Y and Z if we are going to host images with certain content. I don't want to do that cos it's completely tangential to what we're on about (less than 0.1% of all posts contain pr0n) and it would cut out all of our under 18 members, which is a terrible waste.

Before posting again, please read the legislation, and the classification guidelines which the legislation enshrines. I have posted these primary sources before, use them. Understand what they mean to us before effectively saying "No one should dictate what I can see. I want my porn, and you're not going to stop us" again - it's simply not a useful response.

The reality is that it would only take one (1) complaint to the ABA about content hosted here, and if served a takedown notice, we have 24 hours to remove it or to implement an AVS if it's R rated. If the content is RC, we don't have any time at all - the police would come knocking at my, Brad or Jim's (or any or all of the administrators) door(s) and we'd have some fast talking to do or end up in jail. This is how the law works. It's not about the members' desires at all. I can't make that any plainer or simpler for you, so I hope you understand what I am saying here.

This is my last post on this because I've said everything there is to say, and I simply don't think some of you are getting it (deliberately or not) and I can't change the law without a change of government.
