HotRodMatt - November 13th, 2009 at 10:11 AM

The orginal Beetle with a Rolls Royce front clip is still in the possession of Jim Broadley (formerly of Diablo Motors) and he still has the letter of demand from Rolls Royce to destroy it or face legal action.

Maybe beetles would have looked like this if they had had water cooled engines in the front? I don't think it looks to bad :D

GooNoo2180 - December 16th, 2009 at 08:43 AM

Had a customer asked me to do one for him a few mth's ago, exept he had a old studebaker grill..............I refused!!

Gazza265 - February 9th, 2010 at 03:35 PM

Way way way back in the early '80s I looked after a VW soft top for a young lady whilst she went on holidays in Europe. I had a ball driving around in her little beast. I was a Chocolate Brown "Wonderbug"...it had what looked like an Austin A40 front end and it had the manufacturer's/converter's build plate affixed close to the normal build plate from the VW factory.

It had a very well fitted and functioning leak free fold down fabric roof and it was trimmed in what looked like a dark silver velvety fabric. I must say...I was very impressed with the detail that went into it and the workmanship involved.

It got looks from almost everyone on the road (around Albury/Wodonga) and it was a very spritely performer too. A worked 1600TP with extractors that gave it a very nice rumble, twin dual throat Dellortos and 9" of rubber on the rear and 7" on the front gave it a very tough and racey stance.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this conversion before?

vw54 - April 17th, 2010 at 07:08 AM

the other car next to the red one there ( Orange )
had some trick mods done to it

68AutoBug - April 17th, 2010 at 03:43 PM

I remember seeing kits for these in a USA magazine back about 1970??

bonnet with Mercedes grill and dual headlamps in the front fenders..

also early Ford type bonnet kits too...

and there is a V8 powered beetle with front engine and early ford grill at the VW Nationals each year...
with a teardrop caravan...

68AutoBug - April 17th, 2010 at 04:38 PM

I have also seen pics of them with fins and Mercedes tail lamps
on the rear fenders.... lol

You could actually put an Esky cooler under that bonnet... lol

You could use a Bentley grill now that VW owns Bentley...

but the cost of a Bentley grill would be "out of this world" lol

or go the el cheapo way and use a Land Rover Grill.... lol

LEE

photo: maybe this is a Daimler grill ?? not sure...
but the front fenders don't look modified at all... LEE

Better leave it in the barn where no one can be harmed from looking at it?

all that was changed, is the bonnet...
and headlamps
plus odd blinkers

lots of fibreglass ones in the US in the 70s...

so, Your beetle could look like lots of other cars...

Why????

I haven't a clue.. lol

vlad01 - June 20th, 2010 at 06:36 PM

has anyone ever thought this is probably why it was left in a barn?

Barnabie - June 30th, 2010 at 06:34 PM

Yep, some things are better left in the darkest corners of the mind - or a barn - either will do.There truly should be a law against that!!

Gringo_54_oval - July 5th, 2010 at 09:13 PM

heres a pretty one for yas
they call it Tuning
urrrghh!

boppa - July 7th, 2010 at 01:06 PM

There was one running around the Ballina area a while back with an austin grill (maybe)- lots of chrome on the lip and a weird shaped bonnet

Couldn't quite figure out why they did it- the rest of the car was a bog standard beetle, down to factory rims and hubcaps

Some strange strange people out there....

HOW? HotRodMatt you have come about with this type of information WHO? Is your adviser on this or perhaps I should say your misinformed instigator? Iam very interested as you seem to know more than the person named people like you should pull your head out of business that does not concern you the validity of your story is trash and you should think very carefully before throwing accusations around about people and stories that have no merit! You obviously have nothing better to do with your time but to engross yourself in fictional nonsense SHAME ON YOU!
