56oval resto - April 11th, 2013 at 01:56 PM

just purchased a solid 65 beetle , a little ratty , just the way i like it , a slight rub back , some ANKOR wax and slam her , she's all original , will leave the 1200 donk in her

What makes it a Euro bug?

kaiisons - April 11th, 2013 at 03:07 PM

the fact that it was make in europe? LOL

But seriously, the rear windows are the size of a later 1500cc bug, different steering wheel inside. It is a mates car.

Big windows and push button decklid started in 65 on Non Aus bugs.
64 still had T handle decklid and small windows, those wide 14" rims aren't original either.
Gonna make a good rat though, still 6 volt?

Joel - thanks for the useful triva , is 6 volt , yep , not original rims , here are some more picks

Hi

Push button deck lids were supplied by VW spare parts when a new deck lid was needed after a crash. They usually have a crude U section bolted to the rear apron for the lock to latch to.

The push button deck lid is a vast improvement as it removes the rust trap area at the bottom of the T handle deck lid.

May have been a UK import, is it ball joint front end?

Cool car, I have one of those bodies as well.

I would have thought that car would have a chassis number that started with 195.

It has the stuff 65s come with.

As well as the stuff the other guys said I though 65 was the year with no horn ring.

BJ front should be jul/aug 65-on same as the 1300 engine.
Sweet car!

Nope, second digit is the country of origin, 9 being Australia 1 being Germany, this being a German import has the 115 chassis number

3rd digit is the year, 5 being 65.
As mentioned the big window, push button decklid etc are also characteristics of a Euro 65

Now I'm with you.
Big window, early guards and long bonnet.
I didn't pay enough attention to the original photos.
I actually love these things which is why i put a 4 tab and W decklid on my 69. goes with the early headlights in the Aero guards.

ahhh the crossover saga continues, seen loads of these over the years and im from the UK, its a 65 model car but some of the early ones come with some of the 64 parts, in the UK the reg year starts at august so all 64 cars would have been sold up until july 31st 1964, and 65 models from 1st august.. looks like a great find and looking forward to her revival :)
