Hi All,
Just purchased my own beetle.
My partner, Toni, has had a 72 for around 6 months now, and at first, admittedly, the thing drove me crazy, but after working on her, I myself have
cause the VW 'bug' and had to start looking for one of my own.
After searching here, eBay, gumtree and carsales for a few weeks the right one popped up on eBay. Rough around the edges inside and out, but a
reasonably original car (as far as my knowledge extends) and well, at the end of the day, once I saw her, it was all over, I had to take her home.
And so we begin my journey. She has a bit of rust, and needs lots of TLC.
Take a look and let me know your thoughts.
Cheers
PS trying to figure out the photo uploading so bare with me
Welcome to the forum. It doesn't take much for our humble cars to grow on you does it.
Have fun with the adventure path you are travelling.
Yogie
cool addiction!
Looking forward to your progress
cheers pauly
Be carefull as I have a bug son has a squareback daughter has a bug and only fourteen and wife wants a kombi, it just keeps growing nice ride
beautiful! love it
More photos of her and my progress so far stripping the interior
Forgot to mention, she's a 100% numbers matching car all the way round, which I was pretty excited about!
Very nice. I just got my 59 on the road. This loks yo be in great condition for its age. Great find! !
Very nice. going by the photos it looks like an excellent project. These VWs are addictive. I haven't finished mine yet and want another. I love 58-59s semaphores and small tail lights look cool.
So some progress on my baby.
The rust has been fixed in both front pillars, passengers door and battery tray, floor has been rust proofed and painted.
On the cards, new headlining going in, tmi seat covers, new door cards and new tmi oatmeal carpet. Should look fresh!
Motor came out for a general cleanup and new exhaust and manifold... And well this has now turned into a complete rebuild!
Good times.
I'll chuck some photos up!
Headlining removed
New one going in
More photos to come
Headlining in. I'm happy with it. Sorry about the photo overload
great job mate cant wait to see it all done
This looks cool, I have a '60 semaphore car so pretty similar..and mine was had the same broken horn ring and seat belt bolts through the pillars!
The door panels don't look too bad just dirty? Hard to see the condition of the seats too but they look quite good! I haven't seen the reproduction
ones with the same color scheme? If it's all intact you should be able to sell it as often people have mismatched interiors or are looking for
original stuff!
It's a very nice starter... original cars are great to have.
Cheers for the comments Canni. The door trims are pretty ratty and the seats were trimmed differently. So they are all being replaced unfortunately. I've chosen TMI as a replacement because of budget restrictions. I have gone for the same colour scheme, well as close as I can get, brick red, with grey and off white piping, as well as oatmeal carpet. Hoping it will look great.
Time for a bit of an update.
Sound proofed the interior- and then carpet, door trims and retrimmed seats in.
Starting to look the goods for me.
Powdercoated rims, atlas portawalls. Stainless vintage speed exhaust
That looks fantastic, I love it ! Certainly gives me some inspiration for my 58 & 61 Beetles.

Awesome! I love it
yeah that's cool.. I need to do the same to my bug. Is all your trim bits online ordered TMI? What hood lining did you get?

Looks fantastic mate... its given me inspiration
Love youre work. Really looks great pls keep posting
The interior turned out great, and love the red wheels. Are you planning to keep it stock height? I think the height looks good as is
It will stay standard height for now, and once engine goes back in and it starts to settle I'll see how it sits. But if I do lower it won't be anything to extreme. 2.5inch drop spindles and will level out the rear to match but will see how it goes for now. Just want to drive her
Hi mate, your car is turning out great. I am about to install a carpet kit the same as yours, could you tell me what sort of adhesive you used?
Cheers
