Nice bus. Look forward to seeing the oval resto.
Have seen this at Revolks and DOV;- if your oval resto is half as good it will be a stunner

Wasnt this originally an 11 window ?
Very cool... this oval is going to be a good one..
Stunning bus mate, love the attention to detail! The picnic sub is a cool idea too!
This is the bus i started with a 66 11 window.Heard it was known as the fish bus, would be good to know if anyone has any history on it as i brought it
from a guy in SA

This is the only way when you are dealing with so much rust and to do the job properly
[/URL]
The whole bus was blasted and epoxied inside and out as the non caustic dipping was not available unlike today. That is the process the oval has
had.Adding the extra window at this stage and is a big job to get to look like factory and sunroof opening has been made smaller to accommodate the VW
sunroof kit. This bus was the guinea pig for the kit that is now available from VW sunroofs.
This shows that when doing a split properly they are not for the faint hearted,I have restored so many now and they all rust in the same place and no
two ever rust the same
if members haven't seen the FULL build thread on this bus its worth a look. The time, workmanship & skill that went into doing the rest on this bus is nothing short of amazing!!!
You are an absolute legend!
Your skill and attention to detail is mind blowing. Much respect for your effort, skill and finished product.
Cray, cray!!!
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Hodgy,
Very nice bit of gear. I have a 1963 kombi similair to what yours was like!
Can I ask where you got the rubbers for the safaris and small side windows. They look much thicker than mine and mine leak like a sieve.
Hopefully I can get mine a bit more upspeck within a couple of years but totally enjoying it along the way.
Regards,
alfonso56
i used creative engineering safaris and pop outs and the rubber seals came with them. You can try looking on creatives site to see if you can order
them separately. The only thing i find with the side popout rubbers is that they dont have preformed corners and wrinkle up(you can see in the pic).I
have seen rubbers that have pre formed corners but cannot remember who,try google
hope this helps
Thanks Hodgy,
I thought mine were creative but maybe not., will check out site.
Cheers
Ian (fish) Salmon from Mooloolaba owned it in the late 90's I think he did the fixup himself and was a poptop camper , I drove it once or twice was his daily surf banger, not sure where he got it from you could ask him maybe.
Nice craftsman ship and attention to detail Hodgy. Where is the thread located for the bus? How long did it take to restore the bus?
Chalee
i brought it back around 2007 from a guy in SA,maybe he got it from fish,it had the paris beetle canvas when i got it not the poptop.
It took me about 5 years.Only having a spare hrs in-between working on customers cars.
There is a thread on DSK under the title surf bus.If you cannot get onto DSK i will try and get a link going
