Picked up this little gem! 64 Standard, Updates!
retroresto - January 12th, 2015 at 03:16 PM

I got this little gem recently and i cant believe how clean it is, i'd say its about 99% rust free, 1 small spot in front window opening.

Nice!
I was born in 1964 too, and I can tell you I've got a lot more dents than that.

How nice to have such of a rust free bug to lay your hands on.. it's almost unfair, everything is just so much easier.
What's your plans for this little sweet one?

retroresto - January 13th, 2015 at 08:46 AM

Not 100% sure at the minute. I thing i'll get the body off the pan and have it stripped and powder coated then i'll prep the body for a fresh coat of paint. Not sure about mechanicals, ride height, wheels but just take it one step at a time.

It is refreshing to get a rust free project for a change unlike the usual swiss cheese i have to deal with.

Yes its good to separate them for a while and do a nice paintjob, everything will be even better than it was from the beginning.
Also good to take things slowly.

Yeh, found the BALM paint sticker in the pile of bits so confirms it is actually "Gulf Blue"

I will be painting it the same colour.

Lovely car and thanks for sharing!
Where did you get your wiring loom from?

retroresto - February 23rd, 2015 at 09:08 AM

The wiring loom is the factory loom, the car was in such good condition it just needed a wipe over with some acetone to get the crud off. It cleaned up very nicely, i did remove it to paint the car so it easier to clean if you can lay it out on a table.
