Hi guys
I have been lurking in the background for the last few years building my 1962 beetle.
I have enjoyed learning from all of you blokes in this forum and I will continue to do so.
Here is a few pictures of 'Vincent'
I have just bought WRX as a doner vehicle and intend using the Turbo motor and the 5 speed transmission with the reversed crown and pinion from
Subarugears

Hi
Welcome along, there is a wealth of knowledge here, don't be afraid to ask questions. Its going to be a nice ride when its done, are you going IRS?
You should fill in your location as its silly to send you to someone get something done when you in a different state.

Hi Steve
Thanx for your reply....I dont know what to do to convert to an IRS with Subaru 5 speed...All I know is what is listed to do the conversion on
Subarugears website. Is there any reason to go IRS?
I have just put in the black leather back seat from the WRX and in the process of fitting the front seats.
The amazing thing is that a 62 beetle is the same width inside as a 2002 WRX...So the seats go in from my donor car with only slight mods.
Thanks for telling me about the location as I had not thought about that!....All done now
This is my donor vehicle....
I am also thinking about using the disc brakes as well but not sure what I need to do.....
Cheers

Hi
You will need IRS afaik to run the subaru gearbox,u get the modified flanges to suit the vw drive shafts from Subarugears
lolight is correct, you need to go IRS to use the Subaru 5 speed, with IRS you can also move the engine forward to give more clearance, I think Todd at Subargears is mucking around with Subaru brakes on bugs
Looks like we are on the same page.
I also have a black leather wrx interior going in but mine is 2009.
Mine is also currently a swinger but i am converting it to irs and I seel the kits to do it so your sorted there.
currently looking for Subaru brakes for my brake conversion.
Thankx guys
Looks like I am going IRS!.......I will check with Subarugears and see what they can do with the WRX brakes as well and what I need from them for the
IRS conversion
Birdman the back seat looks great in the black leather.....I am modifying the front seat mounts to use them as well....All I need to do is change the
mount to bolt facing into the centre of the car instead of towards the door as the WRX mounting points don't fit in the floorpan due to the mounts.
Turn them 180dg around and fits like a glove
Another bonus is they are spot on at the right height as well......
Cheers

Subarugears do not sell IRS conversions. They send their potential customers with swing axles to me.
My kits use high quality components designed to work in harmony with the Subarugears products for no hassle installation.
I can supply everything you need from standard to uprated torsion bars, trailing arms, spring plates as well as all the required bolts and
bushings.
You'll also need axles and CV's but Subarugears can point you in the right direction for those. All the measurements for axles has been done and you
can't go wrong.
Speak to them directly regarding brake kits.
Would love to see your seat mount setup, I know my seats are wider, they may not have the exact same mounts as yours.

Hi Birdman
Thanks for the info and I will be contacting you over the next few weeks about your IRS kit.
I have only mounted the bottom of the rear seat .. On the seat there is a lug that is about 4 inches long on each side of the front of the seat
which is the standard mounting point. They face 90dg compared o the bottom of the seat.
Anyway I bent these mounts so that they ran along parallel with the seat. Then I drilled 2 holes in the standard crossbar on the bottom of it. With
a bit of a push the lugs reach the crossbar and are then bolted to it. Looks just like a factory fit!
cheers
