1962 Beetle - 1st Car
Fossil - January 2nd, 2022 at 01:16 PM

Thought I'd share a picture of my 1st car - 1962 VW Beetle.
Bought it in 1971 after it had been rescued from a golf driving range and restored by Lorenz Dotterweich German VW trained mechanic .... did the work @ his home in Bevan Rd. Northmead (No. 8 or 10??).
Had the Flying VW Hood Ornament and NSW rego plates AWD-395 which must have been an omen as my initials are AW and D for Dub.

Dave - no I do not have it any longer ..... as a 1st car back in 1971 it was great fun, but, I went off in another direction and life's journey took me away from VW's until 1988 when I came back to them. Currently have a 2016 MY17 Golf GTI 40 Years 6 Speed Manual (9,800 klms on the clock - ex VAG Product Manager personal car) and a T-ROC 140Tsi Sport.

The Flying VW Hood Ornament is the original style and others copied from it (as you no doubt know). IN2VWS has a thread on The Samba about them.

Great to hear Lorenz is still about and think he'd be impressed someone he sold a car to remembers him 50 years later. At the time he had just finifshed a blue one with wide wheels and thicker guard seals to make them wider and some engine work done also ..... tried to get him to sell it to me but he had promised it someone else ..... bugger :sniffle:

cheers,
Bert

Dave,

Saw your smoothie for sale and will admit was half tempted but the Mrs wanted an SUV for us .... she started with the T-Cross but a bit small and with the 85kw I thought a 110kw would be better. Then she sees the T-ROC fully decked with Style and Luxury packages and prefers it ..... Dealer 50klms away and they advertise one as a demo (used for test drives only & 152klms on the clock) @ a good price so send enquiry off then within 10 mins sales manager calls, travel for test drive and trade in & the rest is history as they did a good deal on it. Would have been happy with a 110kw T-ROC but they weren't available in Oct' 2020.

Still wouldn't mind an air cooled in the garage
