It is a 1974 model microbus. It was fitted with a 3.8L V6 manual but will be fitted with an auto . It was last registered last year before we pulled it off the road for the rebuild. . All I have to do is get the motor in wire it up some paint and off to the rego department it is already engineered for the V6. Can’t wait till it’s finished, just picked up some rear sliding windows they will go in soon and might move the radiator underneath any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Here is the motor.

I know of a Kombi with Radiator mounted underneath. It is a very simple procedure, just make sure that you get a louver fitted to the side facing down as that is the only way to vent air onto fins of radiator. Everything else is however you want to do it. Cheers.

P.S. nice motor (bet your van flies)

Are you going to take the power steer pump off and run a shorter belt?

wacked1 - October 31st, 2003 at 05:45 PM

Yes I will remove the power steering pump. I’m getting an idler arm form a conversion place they are $150 and you can use the standard belt.

I'd have a look at what length belt you would need without the idler and go down to Repco or Coventry and have a look at what they have, you'd be surprised at how many different lengths are available, and I bet It'd be cheaper than $150

Kombicol - November 1st, 2003 at 12:27 PM

From memory I think if you run the belt skipping the PS pump the water pump will run backwards,
most guys who use the v6 on the early holdens remove the pump innards and the reserviour, plug the holes and run the old pump as an idler pully - i think maybe that is what wacked was talkin about??

The other thing they do is relocate the AC pump up there with a custom made bracket becaust it wont fit down low in the earlies.

Mine has a HX V8 radiator underneath, with a couple of thermo fans.
that's the largest radiator that would fit between the chassis rails, so I'm told.
Like the idea of the louvres though. may also help prevent unwanted road debris puncturing the radiator.

Dan-I have just had a thought-did your van used to reside at Frederick St. Cavan.
