the 1970 (69?) beetle
Rota_Motor - October 20th, 2003 at 01:29 AM

just a few details,

I am very new to VW's in general, and especially beetles, my other half has just got herself the aforementioned car, apparently it is a 1970 model, but NOT a superbug, it has the usual magnum style wheels, 14", no interior just yet (its all there, just needs to be put back in) it has new brakes (just before it was taken off the road) and a strong (feels fairly quick, and not a smooth idling) 1973 or 1937 cc engine (I cant remember which).

first mods are to give her a bit of a cleanup as she has been sitting around for a couple of years, fit the supplied new extractors and exhaust system, possibly a new paintjob, and then comes my job of cleaning up/detailing the engine, and trying to get a few more horses out of the old girl.

I will try to get some pics of her now, and as we fix her up.

I hope to learn alot around this forum.

thanks.

Welcome and look around, you will find a lot of helpful people.
We have a 70 Beetle also, but it a small 1300 motor. Runs smooth though.:D

ahh yeah I figured it was to do with my mood, but no I was just dazed and confused with all these VW things :)

the 12A is becoming a strong possibility now, either that or a silly aircooled :) (by silly I mean stupid, by stupid I mean fast)

and dammit black, I'll change it to flared guards just for you.. on the topic, where do the flared guards come from??

Rota_Motor - November 13th, 2003 at 12:41 AM

for anyone who cares, just a quick update,

today I put new rubber fuel lines everywhere, tank to line, line to filter, filter to pump, pump to carb, that should fix the fuel leak problems we had.
and Danielle, with a little help from me put the new carpets in it,

the to do list:
seats/belts/interior (refit)
battery (get one)
exhaust (fit it)
adjust and bleed brakes
change oil

looking good mate :)

Enjoying the build ?

What rotary /s do you have ?

Rota_Motor - November 13th, 2003 at 12:43 PM

enjopying the build, well not really, mainly because the previous owners 'modifications' are what mainly needs to be fixed.

battery I should have one, just gotta buy a 36mm socket for the rear drums, hopefully wont need new J-pipes for the exhaust, although we really want heaters so may have to fit proper heater boxes, but it isnt too bad to fix, which is good :)

I have a S1 RX-7 I'm kinda trying to sell, and I have a 4 cylinder mazda 1300 I drive, and a 1300 which has a 12A ready to go back in when the body is ready :)
