This is my first kombi. I bought her about 3 years ago in Brisbane. She's still charging. Currently at the Gold Coast. Gonna keep it pretty
original. I have sworn I will never sell her but I also eventually want a fully original splitty, a hotted up splitty, and a 356; preferably a
speedster. But I'll see how I go.
Help dept: See how the front bumper's missing the rubber strip... I have it, but the internal metal strip broke on one end and I lost the plastic
attachment. I've been told the strips are hard to find but does anyone know if I'll be able to get a plastic end attachment? And the
internal metal strip? Or will I have to make one?
Cheers
ps. Will be attending the Gold Coast Dub Club Show & Swap on 16 November, 2003. Say g'day if you see me!
Some bugger's nicked the badge off the front now though! What do they cost?
Love Busses!! and that is a nice one
to "me" they are the clean looking kombi's
Love the orange/white look.
Looks good:thumb
A nice tidy bus. Just gotta love a clean & tidy kombi. But I might be bias:P

$100? Are you serious? I would have welded the last one on if I new that!!
Actually it may have just been silver plastic... I hope!
Say it would have been. The steel chrome ones are expensive.
I just called Mick Motors and they have aluminium badges to suit for $9.
Cheers, that'll do the trick. In my price range too!
What a nice, neat bus. i like it. :thumb

Go the bays
Hey bus356. Love you kombi. It looks like a twin to Andy, also a ’77 bus. Is the glass ‘SEKURIT’??
I’m guessing yes, then it’s a fully imported deluxe bus, so it’s extra special (well I’m biased).
Hope to see you at the GC show!
As for the rubber strip, the best source is wreckers or swap meet. Alec should have some at the GC show, he has a stand at the swap meet. Usually
~$30-50 or so for a complete one. I put some tectol (rust preventative) behind mine to stop the bumper rusting behind the rubber.
As for the badge. They’re hard to get, yours was a chromed plastic one. The badges Mick sells are profile cut aluminum plate and don’t look the
best. Not sure if the other repro’s out there are available in chrome though.

looks great, awesomly clean, go the bays!
sweet looking ride i like the colour:bounce
Nice Bus
there's an almost identical one up here on the coast
Whats the deal with the SEKURIT glass, I have it in my 77 panel.
Rob....
VW had glass made by many companies. Glass was also one of the first things (amongst others) made locally in countries that assembled VW's.
Most Australian assembled VW's had 'Duroglass' , 'Pilkington' or 'Armourfloat' supplied glass.
Sekurit was the German supplier. That and other things made Andy a fully imported bus (well as best I can find out anyway).
:thumb
Judy's loving the attention! She's my first VW (only my second car) and I've never got around to joining a club so it's good to
get some feedback and finally start finding out some of her history.
There are a few kombis around Brisbane/Gold Coast with the same colour scheme. Actually even saw one on telly in England on the ABC tonight. I
wouldn't mind re-spraying it in a different colour one day unless anyone wants to talk me out of that idea - I'm going to keep it mostly
original so would I be better off keeping the original colour? I like dark green kombis so I'm thinking about that...
Might well be Andy's twin. That'd be interesting. Are there any others around? I'll check the glass and get back to you. BTW,
that's a damn fine looking vehicle you got there. The panels all look so straight! Like what I can see of the interior too. I'd like to have
a good look at the swap meet so email me in the day or two before and let me know how I can recognise you if you're not with the bus.
Can anybody offer some hints on how to start researching a car's history?
Cool, catching up would be great.
Finding the cars history will be fun. From the PO is always a good start if that's possible. Other than that there were a few posts a while ago
where you can give the chassis number to the Muesum in Germany to get some history. I have never tried that though.
A few point's that set the '77 microbus deluxe (what a mouth full) appart from the rest. (some of these appear as options on other
models)
8 seater with walk through, SS striping down the side, chrome bumpers with rubber strip, opening front door 1/4 windows, chrome rear 1/4 windows,
black mirrors, no bulk head behind the rear seats, trip meter speedo, clock, padded steering wheel, two tone paint, chrome striping on interior
panels, rear jail bars, Sekurit glass.
Here's some more on Andy http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=4445
Unfortunately Andy's missing some of the above stuff though.
Oh, make sure the proper name appears on the insurance and they value it higher!!!
:thumb
The glass is Sekurit! It's got most of the other stuff you
mentioned too. The steering wheel isn't padded though... the one I've got actually has cracks in it and I want to get a new one so I might
try and find an original deluxe. Also looks like it's got the original clock.
I saw the post on Andy. It looks in really great nick! I'm going to strip Judy back like you did in the next year or two. Can't wait.
Surely you could look up the chassis number on the internet? I'll get on to it. Cheers.

Howdy Dude. Was great to meet you at the show. LOVED your kombi. It's in much better nic than Andy was when I started the 'resto'.
Did you see the very nice one in the swap meet area (the guy from Volksworld). It's also a '77.
Hey I noticed the marks in your head lining, it looks like it had factory air con. at some stage!! Do you still have any of it? Would certainly be a
plus for you bus. There wasn't any on the mounting gear for the compressor on the motor, so maybe the motor's been swapped out at some
stage?
I forgot to mention, you should have asked Alec if he had any bumper rubbers. Ph 0412 126 784
Also Simon Glen from Klub VW toowoomba may be able to help with some history from your chassis number. Ask Alec for his e-mail address. (He owns the
type 4 car that was for sale).
Let me know if I can help out with anything.
Cheers,
Andy :thumb
a big chrom badge for $100!!!! thats a rip...lol...but i'm cheerin now considering i got one of the chrome biggins for $4 at the tip
jonno

Love your Kombi....she's very neat.
And shares my name...even better.
Are you coming to the Gold Coast Gathering of the Faithful on Sunday
(see posting).
Your most welcome.
I think Judy would love to spend the day with her relatives...
Judy
Haven't checked this post for a while. Yeah it was nice to meet you too Andy and check out your bus. I saw the Volksowrld bus. Exact same colour
and the interior was in such perfect nick. He had a badge for sale - chromed plastic - new $140 or second hand $70. It can wait... and I don't
have any of the aircon left.
Sorry Judy, I couldn't make it to the gathering. I'll make sure I go to the next show/meet. Maybe you can be Judy's godmother!
Hey jonno-ts, I'll give you $5 for it!!
Hey Good to see you back again!
On the badges, Alec from Toowoomba also sells resin repro's which look great. He only does them in colour very cheap (can't remember ~$10 or
$20ea??)
Couldn't cost that much to get them chromed.
Cheers,
Andy
Cheers Andy. That might be the ticket. She doesn't look nearly as good without it. I saw another '77 deluxe without a badge last night. They're so easy to pop off. They mustn't have had thieves in Germany in the late 70s...
