kombiluva - November 8th, 2003 at 05:17 PM

G'day Everyone,

I spent this morning giving my kombi a bit of a detail. Didn't come up to bad.

Hope you enjoy the photo's as much as I enjoy driving the old bus!

If you would like any details, drop me a line.

Keep Cruizzin.......

Mick H

PS There are a few people I would like to thank for their time/effort and advice; in no particular order.

Jeff Unwin-Help in setting up the EFI.
Shimo-Technical advice on suspension and engine and great care in servicing.
Lloyd Davies of VOLKSWERKE in Melbourne for his great care in servicing.
CRUISIN CAR CARPETS-For the interior.
UNDERCAR SPECIALISTS-For finding the mag wheels and getting the set up right.

A better view inside the BOX!

kombiluva - November 8th, 2003 at 05:38 PM

Here is a photo of the external oil coolers that are fitted. The coolers are off a Morris Mini...and i think they fit great, have no problems with ground clearance and work a treat....

kombiluva - November 8th, 2003 at 05:44 PM

Here is a photo of the Oil coolrs from a side profile......not bad clearance.

kombiluva - November 8th, 2003 at 05:45 PM

Made up these sun shade/window covers.
Work great and i think are better then curtains.

kombiluva - November 8th, 2003 at 05:46 PM

Will finish doing the rest of the photo's later,

See ya

Cheers

Mick

Nice Mags, cheaper then some Fuchs or Cookie cutters and they don't need to be machined either!

KOM123 - November 8th, 2003 at 10:33 PM

That's an awesome looking Kombi, very tidy you must be happy :D

kombi_kid - November 9th, 2003 at 10:25 AM

hey
thats an awesome looking bay!!! i admire your interior work!!!
what kind of wheels are they are they just globes???
cheers
rhys

kombiluva - November 9th, 2003 at 12:08 PM

The wheel are made by "Performance" wheels in W.A. They are a standard casting/machining and can be modifies at manufacture time for different offset and up to 19 inch dia. (I went for the standard 205/65/15)

They come with the works.....wheel nuts, centre cap knock offs and about $800 for the lot brand new! If you live in sydney you can get em from Undercar specialists at Lakemba!

That is one seriously mint looking kombi ... Can I ask how much an interior like that costs?!?!?! That is the same sort of material I would like to have in mine :D

Cheers

Very cool, neat looking bay. What kind of motor are you running that requires two external oil coolers? Love the interior, looks very practical, room to sleep and plenty of seating for the family. Nice work, you must be pleased with the result.

Newbie - November 9th, 2003 at 07:57 PM

Cool kombi!!!... Do you mind if i ask who made the custom bed/box in the back?? Was it Kruzin car carpets??

kombiluva - November 9th, 2003 at 08:12 PM

Da Wiz, PurpleT3,

Hi guys how you going??

Well thanks for the good rap there guys. So here is the go with the inside.

I got the interior done by Cruizin Car Carpets in Sydney. I think at a last count the inside cost me about $1800 total. That included the purchase of the middle seat and the powder coating of it, I also have the back seat as well(Not fitted) which is covered the same as the rest of the seats; and the construction of the storage box as well.

As for the Motor; it is a 2L motor with a bit of a cam and some head work with HALTECH EFI; it is running one of those Suburu mounting plate (between the case and the oil filter) that bipasses oil to the coolers. The hotter the oil gets the more oil that goes to the coolers.
Some people think that I have overdone the oil cooler thing and I should fix the problem as to why my motor runs hot (There is no such problem); however the current set up affords a VERY constant oil temperature that NEVER gets above 100 Deg C. I towed a trailer from Sydney to Melbourne last year and the temp in Sydney/Melb was 47 Deg C. I cruised at 100klm/hr and the oil never went above 100 Deg C; my back up to this is that I also run a Gene Berg Oil temperature dipstick.......and in the 3 years I have owned the bus it has never been an issue and the dipstick temp warning light has never come on!

Cheers

Mick H

PS I purchased the kombi with only 1 Oil cooler; however I was informed by my employer that I was going to Townsville for 3 to 6 yrs. (See cooler No 2 come on the scene!) ((What is the biggest killer of TIV motors........dropped valves....due to poor servicing and or overheating of heads (See Australia in general), cooler oil means cooler heads means longer life from my motor......)) Well that my reasoning........ask me in a few year time around the 100,000 Klm mark when I have to pull the heads!!

See ya
