update for bus80y.
twoguns - January 2nd, 2004 at 05:55 PM

thought it was time to do a little update on my ride/s. the splitty had a few changes in the last few months. a new 1776 motor, thanks to mike at CBB. it produced 67hp when new on dyno. am expecting more when it goes down this month for a follow up and tweak. a narrowed front beam and the new 17in rims. i needed a taller combination and i dont like rubber. the cost of originals was way to much so alloys became the choice. i know this is hard for the purist. but the bus is driven daily so it had to be done. (the twin cab will remain pure....)

following are pics of how it looked when i found it. got it home and the previous look b4 the new motor and stuff.

Steven

twoguns - January 3rd, 2004 at 08:59 AM

hey sikdub.... MATT help makes it straight.:D

Daniel - January 5th, 2004 at 10:56 AM

That looks sweet with those wheels on it. I'm about to lower mine a bit more too, but will stick with the 5 spokes for now. Looking at your bus has set the cogs in my head working some more, I know of some 17in boxter wheels for sale at the moment.

sgetty - January 5th, 2004 at 06:31 PM

how long did it take to get as is now twoguns?

kombi_kid - January 5th, 2004 at 06:39 PM

cheers
rhys

twoguns - January 5th, 2004 at 07:07 PM

whitewalls and rims are stacked in the 'manshed'. am tossing to put them on the dualcab.

BUS-234 - January 7th, 2004 at 05:14 PM

Mate that is a choice bus, especially the aftermarket wheels. How long has it taken you to restore that bus?

twoguns - January 7th, 2004 at 05:25 PM

its been an ongoing process since i first picked the bus out of from under the plum tree in '98. dont think anyone ever finishes a project completely.:D i know there is still more i want to do.

bigbruvabob - January 7th, 2004 at 05:44 PM

nice bus but would love to see more of the notch:sandrine

alldak - January 7th, 2004 at 05:53 PM

how are you going ,this is darren we talked at valla about ordering the waist line trim from creatives well i called them and they told me that because the longest piece of trim is 3 metres it would cost an absolute fortune on shipping, also because the pieces are annealled if they bend during shipping thats how they will stay ,so its alittle risky.
i have how ever recieved some of there gear and i must say there quality is very good and i am going to order more very soon so i am sorry i didnt let you know alittle sooner .
by the way original is great on an original car 1776 isnt original, either is that narrowed beam ,or those dropped sills i think that the rims are a really good idea when i had my 17 inch with 40series rubber the first thing people say is ,hows the ride like ? do you get a saw arse?
i like the new look custom
i wish that my split was finished im jelous

twoguns - January 7th, 2004 at 06:06 PM

hey hey... i thought you fell off the face of the earth, and you were going to stump me on the belt. mate ggod to hear from ya and i hope/sure you are making progress on yours. and i know when youre done that it s going to be one awesome bus.

dont have a problem with the new rims and tires. remember we had it a little lower and had 50 rubber on it then. so not much different. but as for being sore. no we dont. and in fact now that the diameter is larger the bus is smoother in handle and conering. think the fornt beam plays a big part in it. bus is back down to mike soon as i need more air into the back.

if i find a belt great. but i now also own a 64 dual cab. so htat is going to swallow some funds.

anyway keep intouch and keep me posted on your progress. would love to hear how youre doing.

hey big brovabob. neville is sitting in the manshed waiting for a gearbox transplant as it pops out of third. i will probably be selling him as i need room and funds. its kinda hard though as i drive it/ stare at it for a while and i go nope cant do it. but i am going to havta to keep the peace.

Awesome, awesome ride, dude!

Those 17's fit so snug under the arches too.
You should be able to get a matte beige made up somehow. Will look wicked!

All these mad splits turning up. I think I'm getting corrupted. Might have to start some hunting me thinks:alien

And dammit that speedo pic was too much of a temptation not to mess with. Assuming it has a needle stop just after 70:P

twoguns - January 7th, 2004 at 09:26 PM

hey cam if you looked more closely you would have seen that it was already sitting on the needle stop. :D it is mounted at the zero. i try not pushing after that point as it is a trip meter and i hae already broken it once. and am not to keen on it playing up again.

Cam - January 8th, 2004 at 09:08 PM

ooh, my mate has done that a few times in his M3 German import. Keeps having to get the speedo re-done.
I have a Mercedes Benz 160MPH speedo from the early 70's. Everything seems to be identical to the beetle items. I was thinking about swapping it all over and making a hybrid of the two (using a W trip meter) and then getting it either re-painted or a custom sticker made up in 260 K/PH. Or I could just get it re-calibrated and save myself the hassle :D
But it would take some serious VW beans to do a dub version of the famous "HO on the hume" photo (Phase III off the clock at 160MPH).

twoguns - January 9th, 2004 at 07:56 AM

would have to speak to dave... im sure his beetle could get close. ive done it in a VR when i was a rep several times in fact. but never got a pic. used to come out of woolongong in the day when those electroninc signs used to not only tell you you were speeding, but also how fast. that was quite moronic... as it was a challenge for every rep i knew. :D

have this pic from germany though. its a audi A3. i was hoping it did better, it clocked out at 220. i lost a few ks when soring the camera.... but

Cam - January 9th, 2004 at 04:38 PM

Seems you and I are of the same stock, twoguns :thumb I'm currently serving a 12 month suspension for an early morning blast up the Hume.
VW54 Dave we talking about? Whats he got powering his beetle then?
I love the VR6's. Pity we did'nt get the manual AWD 2 doors here tho :(

Have you got the video of the M3 and the RS6 going down the autobahn? They're doing 175MPH. It's available on kazaa and I think also on BMWM5.com awhile back. I have CD's upon CD's of insane car MPEG's. If you want I can burn you some and send them your way.

twoguns - January 9th, 2004 at 04:47 PM

no i havent. will u2u for when youve got nothin' better to do. :thumb thanks.

ive been close a few times. i have a triumph st955 sprint. tops out at 270. i have been there a few times and had a few close ones. was down at eastern creek in nov (superbike sckool) and going into turn one at more than 200 clicks does a lot for your fun factor. it took about three weeks of trafic running to get excited again. iseen a few bike vids though.

Cam - January 11th, 2004 at 11:55 AM

Very nice! I've heard those triumphs are wicked little machines :thumb

Cool, cool! I have some bike vids too. They're all over the place. I lost alot when my computer went down last. But I remember where to get most of them again. I'll build my catalogue back up and send them upto ya:cool:
