this was my 73 bay, Squeak, i owned him for over 4 years back in the u.k.
as the title suggests he is no longer with us.... i'll find some more pictures soon...
kai
Man what happened to him?
I lived a Narrabeen for 25 years, Avalon bring's back some cool memorys.
Rob.....
it's a crap story, but basically a concrete roof collapsed on top of the van
the rest is history...
i now have a '67 squareback, i should have some more pics of that sorted soon
kai
Oh man that sux.... Insured?
Rob....
could you redeem anything as a memento of the great ' squeak'?
it was insured, but as with all insurance companies it some time for them to give me some money, and when they did it wasn't as much as it should
have been. i don't have a very good opinion of insurance companies, apart from ripping me off, i don't beleive they have ever done anything
for me!!!!!
as far as a momento, i've got a few bits and pieces, and of course, the memories!
kai
Hope ya had a party in her rememberance!
Rob....

i did get smashed with some friends to mourne the passing of squeak.... not sure i'd call it a party.
kai
here's a pic of my poor van's demise
kai
Too Bad. Hate to see a kombi in pain:cry
well, the other pictures seem to have disappeared.....
but here is the best pic ever taken of squeak:
kai
(it was taken at the deva dubs and rods show at chester racecourse, the big building in the background is cheshire police hq)
Hey Kai,
Was it your Bus that was in the same concrete garage as Ca$hback the Drag car???
This was at Tuck`s Dad`s place in Frodsham??
Remember Matt telling me, did`nt he buy the engine out of it??
Gra.
yep, that's the one.
i heard that matt had the engine, but he hasn't let me know how he got it or anything.... i got kinda screwed over by the salvage peeps (and the
insurance)..... surprise surprise...
i lost quite a few pesonal belongings and tools when they took the van away
kai
That`s a bummer.
Matt has fitted the Multi-Point Fuel Injection off his `79 Kab to it and is running it at the moment I think.
Told me he heard which wreckers it was at and went down and pulled the engine.
At least you know it`s in a cool car!
Gra.
the annoying thing is, the van was a class 1 write off, which means no part was to be used ever again, by law! i pleaded with the assessor to change
that so i could strip it for parts, he wouldnt.
then the slavage peeps took it, before i had cleared my stuff out of it, after about 10 phone calls (at much expence to me) i tracked them down and
asked what they would do to the van now, expecting them to say they will crush it, as the law says they should..... they said they were gonna brake it
and sell off parts.
when i heard that it was like the last straw, i just totally lost interest!!!!
the whole turn of events really bummed me out, and i was having loads of other hassles around that time too.... the end result was i called it a day
and came back to aus..... and bought another aircooled dub
kai
p.s. that engine had about 190 miles on it..... not even close to being run in yet..... i didn't really get my money's worth outta that did i
That really sux Kai. Didn`t know all that shit happened.
So you are an Aussie then?? How long in the UK?
I lived in Frodsham all my life before I moved over here in September`01.
Did you ever see the Bay that me and Matt built, it was the one that was in red oxide/black guide coat with ragtop and 6V headlights with flat tinted
perspex lenses. It was known as the Flying Shite!!!
Cheers
Gra.
yeh, i'm an aussie, born in adelaide.....
i lived in the u.k for nearly nine years, 3 years in coventry and the rest in/around chester....
was that van the one with polished carlton alloys? i'm sure i used to see it around all the time, i seem to remember admiring it (totally pissed ) at the all types show one year, when it used to be at the rugby club....
kai
Yeah mate, that`s the one!
The sliding door was on shed door hinges (opened outwards!!) the rear arches were made of duct tape it was a full on piece of shit!! But looked great,
had a wicked sound system (800w 15" sub etc etc) had some great parties in it.
I`ll post some pics when I can.
Gra.
chook sehd i would love to see the pics of this van it sounds awesome :bounce
Pyro,
All my photos are at my inlaws house (keep all that stuff there during bushfire season just in case). I`ll get some tommorrow. The only one I`ve got
here is when she was used to great effect in "The Big Bay" at Vanfest `99 in the UK. She`s the dark spec just above the passenger side indicator!
Shit that was a good show!

it's always on within a day or two of my birthday, i had my 18th, 19th ('99), i think i missed 2000 'cos of the fuel crisis bollox, the my 21st,
and 22nd, didn't go for my 23rd cos i had lost the van a few months earlier so didn't really feel like it
anyway chook shed, the simple fact is, we've probably met and don't even know it.... small bloody world. i'll give you a shout next time i'm round
adelaide, we should go for a beer

Gra.
if i remember rightly they said there were 400-450 vans in the big bay display.....
the trekker..... there's the missing link, i think we do know eachother!!! i remember talking to the owner of a white trekker for a while (i was
slightly smashed.....again....), awesome ride!!!
i think that was the year that i was there with a mate in his crappy renault 5, 900cc thing :puke
we had a tent, and both woke up on the ground between the tent and the car....that was a good night!!!
there was a guy in a yellow bug doing jumps on those crazy bumps in the camping field too, i'm sure he must of cracked the 'pan in a few
places.....
kai
