Our '53 oval as you can see pretty much shagged, this car is supposedly the first beetle sold by Volkswagen in Victoia.

PHAT BUG - January 4th, 2004 at 01:42 PM

john james - January 4th, 2004 at 09:53 PM

so this is OK huh???

SKEWtYpe3 - January 4th, 2004 at 11:52 PM

meaning that there are parts for us when we need them yes.

hey rhett did u hook that guy up i introduced u to at DOTVW?

cheers !

john james - January 5th, 2004 at 12:56 AM

Skewy you have a very narrow vision, one that has ne reason. My point exactly is what we see in these pictures and no disrespect meant to the guy who owns them, but, if they are to be enjoyed in later life then COVER THEM UP. If not sell them to someone who will!!! oh but I guess hes an aussie collector

PHAT BUG - January 5th, 2004 at 05:22 AM

Sgetty: yes that is our spray booth, many a car has been painted in that carport, mine included!

Skewy: I spoke to him at the DOTVW and gave him our details, but have not heard from him since.

Kombi Kid: Welcome any time bro!

BBCK: Sorry mate the country buggy has been ear marked for my next project.

JJ: If you don't mean any disrespect, then don't bitch about me on my own thread!

john james - January 5th, 2004 at 07:12 AM

hey everyones bitching on my thread but Im new on here so thats ok??
have you and skewy got no answer to my preevious statement??
You are probably guilty foir the disappearance of more VW's than an exporter

VDUBXTC - January 5th, 2004 at 09:11 AM

At least they are staying here in OZ. and it looks like he is doing a few up.
yes i agree they should be covered, but they will still last longer sitting where they are here in OZ than on the salt covered roads overseas. :vader
JJ you say you are an Aussie who spends time in the UK and Japan. Do us all a favour and stay over there. :cussing

Ohh and Phat Bug
Nice collection dude. :thumb

Dasdubber - January 5th, 2004 at 09:32 AM

c'mon kids...lets play nice.

that is a nice collection there phatbug, look forward to seeing them on the road some day! :thumb

Robo - January 5th, 2004 at 09:33 AM

Who says when they go over there they get covered up! I can remember in a Volks World artical a few issues back there was a guy with a few split beetles and they were left out in the great English weather and not particularly looked after either!
I have seen cars that have been left out in the Australian bush for more than 50 years and the steel is still good and quite restorable. Its the climate we have out here. if it wasen't like that you wouldn't be able to gat any splittys at all to send back!
Rob....
Rob.....

kombi_kid - January 5th, 2004 at 09:44 AM

look where he lives in bendigo!!! its dry out there so most are restorable!
JJ keep your comments to yourself if there not positive!! if u where here a few months ago he did have a heap of splitties for sale at very reasonable prices and how many where sold do u think??? probably only a few 1 included that we brought which i can see was sitting out in the yard and it is what u would call a "Rust Free" bus!!
cheers

Unity-28 - January 5th, 2004 at 11:11 AM

Damn, ONe of the most involved VW families gets critisised for having a few dubs outside, whats the world comin to? JJ do yourself a favour and get info about things b4 you speak your mind. Thanks to The guys, a lot of dubs have stayed on the road, rather than being turned to scrap metal.

N!

RABC - January 5th, 2004 at 11:22 AM

JJ no disrespect but they are not at some dump or crashed at a wrecker sorry if he is an aussie collector, but dude as far as I can see this is Australia. Now in Japan how many do you see on the road?? Or in the UK I went over there not so long ago I don’t think I seen any driving around they all must be sitting under cover no one ever drives them. That is what are car is for to drive. + they are his cars let him do what he likes with them. that is my 2c

Thanks

RABC

Ps to you sell any parts??

PHAT BUG - January 5th, 2004 at 04:12 PM

JJ: We are hardly what you could call hoarders, we buy and sell on quite a regular basis but we don't do it for the money we do it to help a fellow VW nut out. Heaps of VW's from our collection have seen the road again and others that are to far gone have been used for parts.
Like I said we do sell parts and complete cars and we sell them at reasonable prices to help people out.
This might come as a shock but we've even sold cars and parts to England, but to people who are genuine VW enthusiats who are restoring the cars!

But we don't sell stuff to people, so they can take them back and sell the cars for 10 times more than what they paid!!

Tell me this: Are YOU going to cover up the cars or sell them to someone who will??

ARE YOU IN IT FOR THE VOLKSWAGEN, OR ARE YOU IN IT FOR THE MONEY???????

PHAT BUG - January 5th, 2004 at 04:21 PM

Thank you to everyone who has replied, just goes to show what a great Volkswagen community we have in Australia!!

PS thanks JJ I got a good laugh out of this
(quote) You are probably guilty foir the disappearance of more VW's than an exporter (end Quote) Mate surely you cant be serious?

kombi_kid - January 5th, 2004 at 04:29 PM

good lesson for you JJ get the facts before u start baggin people!!!
i know i will be buying a car when we go down there cause i know what to expect from "The Farm" as its known know :P
keep it real rhett
cheers

well lets see

hey ssome cool volksies phat bug may pop in if ever over there

sgetty - January 5th, 2004 at 06:28 PM

:thumb great spray job phat! very profesional

-- mpvw i think jj kinda ask for that sledging.

matttyler - January 5th, 2004 at 06:38 PM

If I can ad my 2cents.

JJ I supported your theory to a point. And I truely believe that no matter where they go Volkswagens should be loved and restored. Though now I would have to say you are being a sook.

People threw stones at you and you will note the stone throwers where none of the people that posted these pics.

If you knew the guy that owns these cars then you would know 90% of them have been saved from the crusher.

Therefore I suggest you aim a little more carfully in future and check your facts.

Kind Regards

Matttyler

fatboy - January 5th, 2004 at 06:49 PM

Nice work Phat Bug.

I have to go to the UK but when I return I hope you'll have a splitty left for me to restore (and keep in Oz of course) :D

JJ your acting like a kid grow up.
Maybe when you get to the UK should check out a town on one of the offshore islands (Orkneys or Shetland cant remember which) its called TWAT - I reckon youd feel right at home.

BTW it had its name changed to twat because the original anglo-saxon name was considered too rude - Go figure

vassy66T1 - January 5th, 2004 at 10:38 PM

Love the '72. I am doing a '66 in the same style but new beetle cyber green for that part.
Trying to find two more riviera's to drop underneath it. Look forward to your completed pics.
