Wacked1 4.4L V8 Bus
wacked1 - February 19th, 2004 at 10:02 AM

This is my new ride it’s a 79 Kombi with a 4.4L V8. It is on the truck as we speak. It looks a little rough now but as soon as I get it will remove the wheels 15” merc wheels. Do some body work lower it as it is raised at the moment and give it a quick coat of matt black I'm also thinking of putting silver racing stripes on it till it gets it propper paint scheme.

Thats the Beastie !!!!!!!

Enjoy it. If I had of kept it, slammed with matt black was high on my list too. Pref. With a set of 18" porsche turbo twist rims.

vwtyp2 - February 20th, 2004 at 08:23 AM

nice on Ron. looks like a whole lot of fun.
I'd go silver flames, with red pin stripe around them, paint the Merc steelies red, thin white stripe on the tyres, and slam it to the weeds. :thumb
keep us updated.

Cool looking kombi, V8 and all :> Hey what Box has it go ??

Also if you are dumping it do you have plans for the merc rims and front bar ?
:D

Doug Sweetman - February 20th, 2004 at 09:50 AM

Brad - it has standard 1600 (I think) kombi box in it. It sits on 3300rpms at 100kmh, even with those 31 R 15's on the rear, so anyone who know the gear ratios of the box should be able to work it out for sure.

Clutch was the problem when I had it, gearbox seemed to be handling it pretty well, although admittedly I only owned for a very short period.

wacked1 - February 20th, 2004 at 11:51 AM

this is it getting on the truck and then off to the train, it's now on its way here should be a couple of days now.

also it now has a 2L box in it and the recent owner put a new clutch wiring and fixed the cooling problem as well. Brad don't know about the rims yet.

Daniel I saw a hot rod yesterday matt black with red flames and white outline and thought it was extremly cool and changed my mind. have you seen any flames red with silver pinstriping before? has anyone if you have any pictures can you post them .
thanks

wacked1 - February 20th, 2004 at 08:29 PM

it's $850.00 to get it here, but if I wanted to wait a little longer say 2 more weeks I could have got it here with another company for $600.00.

wanting to get some wheels like these(centrelines) and lower the rear a little.

robnjo - February 26th, 2004 at 07:06 PM

very cool...for a lite motor you can get good HP.before I got in to VW I was stuffing around with rangies, my last one had a 4.4(p76)11:1comp set for avgas:cool::cool:(a great steet sleeper)...but that was the last because in 2 years I spent 12k on it,never again, VWs all the way baby

vwtyp2 - February 26th, 2004 at 07:06 PM

how come your 1600 box held in, and my 2 litre box shat itself after 4 weeks?
must have had something to do with the driver. :D
mine will have a 1600 box short term while I build a new one.

VWFOOL - February 26th, 2004 at 07:22 PM

ur plans sound great, go the racing stripe

wacked1 - March 2nd, 2004 at 04:20 PM

HEY, got it today.
Man this thing hammers, on the way home had it sideways, people on the street were freaking out. You should see them at the lights it has this loud rumble, it’s the unmistakable sound of a V8 and people don’t know what to think. It drives perfect no clutch problems at all the only thing is it’s a little sloppy in the linkages so changing gear can be a little hard at times otherwise it’s lots a fun. I might take it to WSID for the nationals and see how it goes.
See you around wacked1

Doug Sweetman - March 3rd, 2004 at 02:37 PM

Enjoy, just be careful in the WET !!!!!
