A Ghia for the collection!
Menangler - April 17th, 2004 at 08:12 PM

Thought I would post a pic of my latest find, I have been trying to buy it for 3 years, I recieved a phone call saying it was 4 sale on wednesday. I went up Thursday, had a look and the deal was done.

It has 83,000 miles from new and was owned by a little old lady that used it to go the the shops, she was 83 and passed away late last year leaving it to her son inlaw in her will. He was reluctant to sell it but he said that it just wasn't him, so he bought a sailing boat instead, nice!

It is all original, seats and inside bits are very nice, original 1200 engine runs like a sewing machine, and it is so nice to drive, like going back in time.

It is tucked away in my garage all safe and sound,

Think I will take it to the Shoalhaven VW Clubs "Blast from the past" show on the 2nd of May at Berry, any one from Sydney coming down?

Dave,
Great purchase, may we ask what you picked it up for ?

Menangler - April 17th, 2004 at 10:23 PM

Plans are to dump it on its guts, narrow the front end 5 inches, rub back the paint so the metal shows through, leave it outside to weather so the bare metal will surface rust, put on some shiney new Sprinstars and 135's, ooh yeah, what a rat. :cry

No she is staying just like this. :thumb

65busser - April 17th, 2004 at 10:54 PM

kroozzn63 - April 18th, 2004 at 02:56 PM

champion score will this mean you will stop buying more cars
he he he

Menangler - April 18th, 2004 at 06:15 PM

Yep, I will have to stop buying cars now, no more shed space!

I wish it was a $1000.00 vwombat, payed what the owner wanted, the going rate for a Ghia in this shape, it wasn't a steel!

Lee, I might give it a run to the club meeting next Tuesday, see you there.

Robo - April 18th, 2004 at 06:23 PM

Thats gotta be one of the best experiances in life, getting a mint old VW off the very caring original owner, just about beats getting one new!
Congratulations, and it just goes to show patience and perserverance pays off in the long run.
Rob...

Cruzin in a Golf - April 19th, 2004 at 12:36 PM

yeah i love your garage dave....got a bit of everything, but you seem to like the cream colour!!! I want a Karmann Ghia, but dont have the money for one, if i were to get an air cooled car it would be the Ghia. I think my grandfather had one before he immigrated to Australia from Germany

KruizinKombi - April 19th, 2004 at 02:00 PM

Awesome score Dave!!!

VWCOOL - April 19th, 2004 at 03:56 PM

Nice one!
There is a nice Kghia getting around Hornsby/Berowra/Brooklyn with for sale signs on it. Anyone from here? Saw it twice on the weekend

Stanley - April 19th, 2004 at 05:52 PM

Man I love KG's
and that one looks nice
Saw a nice beige one getting around Ipswich on the week end

Couldn't afford or find one so I bought a Notch
If you get in the right sun and squint really hard it kinda looks
like a pregnant KG sort of, a bit......:P
