S and Bay (finally scanned a pic!
General_Failure - July 21st, 2004 at 08:18 PM

Hey everyone!

Finally got a pic of my bay and my S beetle. The pic's a few years old now, but they haven't really changed.

The van is an 1800. used to be an auto, now has a 1600 box in it. Unfortunately the camper part is basically gutted. Going to be fixing it up.

The beetle, yeah, and S beetle. 72 model. passenger side panels seem to be '73 though. The motor is half S, half kombi. Hate to think how they made it work. Even has a couple of different size head studs.

The bug's about to go into a storage container, and donate a couple of parts to my kombi so it can go chug again. Nicking the foggies and it's subaru fuel pump.

Would you believe between when those 2 photos were taken, my van had been deregistered and sat in the yard for 2 years? Then i got it running in a couple of days and got it blueslipped. Then straight off to QLD. heh, now I'm fixing it to leave QLD and go to VIC. Wonder if it feels used....
Tomorrow is the big day. I'll see if it starts after the topend rebuild. Going to be interesting, because I kind of accidentally mangled the exhaust.
Anyone got one sitting around that lives near me?

Tristan

I knew there was another post! I wonder why it didn't appear straight off.

Yeah, I love the plates. When my car was deregistered I put them in storage.

It can so fly! Got any dynamite? Peopel always say the plates suit me...or try to buy them off me :)

Tristan.

hehe, a low S and a high bay together.
The S is currently in a shipping container, and the bay just took it's first test run tonight, after the replacement of the head, piston (and opposing piston for balance purposes) bore, rings, and correction of many things that made my blood run cold. Just a shame the exhaust got bent....
'Twas interesting with my low bug, _LOW_ fairlane and high kombi parked together. This was when I lived in an old railway worker's terrace house. I took up half the street. Actually, the fairlane took up half the street on it's own. hehehe.

I managed to fix the problem with my kombi that required several expletives yelled before it would start too :)

And I finally replaced the foam thingy between the engine bay and engine tinware. Go the cheap foam mattress!!!

I also fixed the heater today, with another foam mattress, for the conduit that runs under the van. For some reason mine was missing. And for the two smaller ones, going from the heat exchanges to the Y piece, I used coke cans with the ends cut out, slotted into each other end to end, with duct tape for good measure. They fit quite well!!!!
