My girlfriends new ride (with pics) - the reason my cars are on hold.

It's definately not VW, but not a bad car for what we paid for it. Got the lot, but I had to repair the electric windows and front bumper.

The bumper is the reason I'm posting this. I'm reasonably proud of how it's turned out, and anything I do on other cars inspires me to do more elaborate mods on Vee Dubs.

This is how it looked when we got it home (covered in dew the next morning)

The new metal bumper insert for the narrowed Toyota Prado bumper. Fabricated from salvaged and reshaped 4WD bumper pressings.

And this is it mounted and with one half of the Prado bumper mated to it. Clearance under it is same as original. This bumper shortens the nose by 3 inches which makes the car easier to park for my other half.

I did away with the original plastic bumper because they are the main weak spot on these cars. They actually had a brittle plastic bumper under the even more brittle plastic outer instead of steel. It's gotta be steel, and this new one is made to save the vital organs up the front as well as give better support to the crumple zones in a major prang.

Finally, just for sh!ts and giggles, this is the latest look for the old war wagon. This is the car that will be replaced by a Kombi as soon as I can manage it.

We used this beastie to shunt some other cars around our private wrecking yard (my parents property) the other day, and only bent the bullbar when I rammed a Landrover Safari wagon's bigger bullbar head on at over 20 kph, uphill, with the handbrake on in the Rover (Dad let it off a second too late, bad timing). It only took a big rope around my bullbar and the Mitsubishi truck and some reckless reversing to haul it back almost an inch to where the bullbar was when I made it. Good going for such a solid hit I reckon.

OK, this is the bumper virtually finished. just got to put the side brackets in and the rubber arch trim on. Matches the lines of the car better than the original bumper... When I paint the car, the bumper gets a squirt too. Thinking about a metalic version of the original colour.
