haha, feel like a perv yet?? haha, welcome to my kombi pics! i recently bought three kombis to make one you beaut little bastard to put on the road.
two kombis were bought from the damaged vehicles auctions and the half decent one in need of a bit of kombi lovin' was bought off of forum member
jonnyb, i cannot speak highly enough of the man myself as i'm sure others can verify.
all up these road warriors owe me less then a grand, and hopefully with a little bit of elbow blood (c'mon, how many of us dont bleed!! stuff the
"grease"!!) and time and my much missing virtue of patience, i shall have the hand painted white kombi on the road!! WOOOHOO!!! she is going to be
named "layla" in worship of the song of the same name by Eric Clapton, hhmmmmm, beautiful song. anyway, layla is goin to be fitted out with a big
bed in the back on top of a frame with a single set of seats bolted in front. all the camper interior has been ripped out, including the cow print
drawers complimentary of some previous hippy owner. very nice. i have been toying with the idea of mounting a hammock in the pop top opening,
diagonally across, to use when the top is up, that will require more thought though...
to get some rego layla is goin to get attacked by me grinder to terminate all visible cancer, all the usaul suspects, sill, wheel arches, nose panel,
door bla bla bla. thats where the damaged *RUST FREE* kombis step up to the plate and have their swing. these were bought for their rust free
replacement panels and engine and box (not the charcoaled engine of course). once rust has been blown away and good panels welded back in, they will
then be graced by some more hippy paint strokes to keep the paintjob goin, cos i love it!!! its pretty cracked up but too original to paint over and
lose!!!
the engine and gearbox gratefully donated by the yellow kombi is a 1.8L fireball of power backed up by the traditional 4 speed clanger. currently
it's given me the s#its as it had two barrels filled with oil cos the yellow kombi got rolled. obviously the time on its side led to oil runnin past
the pistons into the combusion area, so at the moment the engine wont turn over with the plugs in as its 'hydraulicing', basically unable to
compress oil so doin jack all.... the engine and box have already been put in layla, i thought i had drained enough oil whilst i had it out but it
appears not. i'm either goin to have to suck it out with some clear tube through the plug holes or mix it with fuel (or another low evaporating
temperature liquid) to spurt the remainder of the oil out of the plug holes when i turn it over. what will be left (hopefully!!) will just be mostly
fuel and should evaporate soon enough.....
anwyay, no more jabberin, here are the pics!!!
ps- the damaged kombis will be parted out once i've taken my stash, however i'm open to enquires. i'll let you know if i wont need it, might need
it, or will need it, and we can talk from there.

damn that rust
I was just wondering, When an enginge is cremated, such as the one in the pics, is there anything that can be salvaged from the engine (in particular
the exchangers) that being said, if they are ok and in need of a new home i would be interested to know what you would be wanting for them.
Similarly i am looking for a good cargo sliding door popout hinge thingy (the one i have is worn to the bone from the runner cover!) and also a rust
free boot.
Oh and i would be interested in the rear seat from one of the interiors, Does either fold into a bed at all?
I think that ought to do it for now! haha
Cheers
Dan
hey grock! i havent got a clue as to the condition of the heat exchangers, and the engine isnt goin to be removed for quite a while so i cant really
healp ya sorry.
i'd be interested in selling you the popout hinge and boot ( i guess you mean the engine lid??) and yeah i'm sure both seats fold into a bed,
however i'm not 100% sure of the condition of either.
let me know if your keen, just u2u or somethin, or otherwise if you wanted to check them out first hand then on one day this weekend i'll be there
working away at em'. they are at redcliffe.
