paulgrey - July 27th, 2004 at 07:25 PM

It is VW ruby red... It is matched to an orginal paint sample

barls - July 27th, 2004 at 07:33 PM

thats the colour i want for my sbug. its got the same mods. how did you upgrade the brake

paulgrey - July 27th, 2004 at 07:41 PM

The brakes haven't been upgraded as such yet,

The front disks are stock 1500 disks that have been cross drilled, and the wheel stud pattern has been changed to 4X114 (nissan stud pattern) The changing of the stud pattern my sound like a strange thing to do but in actual fact it is a master stroke as I can now walk into any mag wheel shop and pick up wheels for it. The wheels that are on it are 18" DTM garcia's in chrome. oh and the back brakes are still drums.

barls - July 27th, 2004 at 07:44 PM

very nice mags mate if you are going to upgrade the brakes, is it going to be the whole hog or just a boaster. i have just the boaster on mine and it stops nicely.

56astro - July 27th, 2004 at 07:48 PM

Looks like a nice ride.

paulgrey - July 27th, 2004 at 07:57 PM

The type IV is the s&#t,

It has so much torgue that I can light up the 215 tyres, smoke boy racers from the lights and pull 100 MPH up hill, It would go over 100MPH but I run out of gears.

If you are in any doubt about putting a type IV in your VW do it will be the best thing you have ever done to it.

paulgrey - July 27th, 2004 at 07:58 PM

Barls..
regards the booster I was not aware that there was a product out there are you able to give some more detail... It is always handy to be able to stop.

barls - July 27th, 2004 at 08:10 PM

its a vh or vx 44. its a multi use item for cars of this vintage. simple mount i just bolted it on the left side level with the master and hooked it up. it reduced my stopping distance by a good meter or so. the t4 2L is the best. i just love passing cars up hills but unforunately its not on the road at the moment. this is it.http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=25214

glad to hear that you are happy with the engine

sounds similar to what i am working up at the moment

any more details on yours?
heads
ignition
cam
exhaust
hp/torque?

just curious, cos it sounds like a beast

barls - July 28th, 2004 at 10:17 AM

~air fooled~ - July 28th, 2004 at 01:37 PM

it is motherfu#@in sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttt!!!!

paulgrey - July 28th, 2004 at 04:44 PM

Hi Kim,

I will try to answer your question but I didn't build the engine... I may have to get some more info from my mechanic

heads "I think they are stock twin port heads that have been boarded out to have 40mm in-take ports"

ignition "Electronic, with 009 dissy"

cam "No idea- fairly mild I think because it is running hydraulic lifters"

exhaust "I am just having a custom exhaust built with tunned headers - the one that is on there in these picks sat a little low and kept draging when comming out of driveways etc."

hp/torque? "I have not had it on a dyno- but the prevoius onwers did it was around 120 hp- not sure of the torque but you do feel it."

just curious, cos it sounds like a beast " It is I will be interested to see how the new exhaust goes- you can always have more hp !!!"

s1fter - July 29th, 2004 at 09:14 PM

Hey good to see a T4 in a beetle in NZ as you do not see that many here! Looks real nice, well done!

who did the work?

[Edited on 29-7-2004 by s1fter]

paulgrey - August 2nd, 2004 at 05:09 PM

Hello s1fter,

There does seem to be a growing number of Type IV beetles, Did you make it to the nationals?. there would have been about half a dozen of them there.

The work has been done by the Veedub Shoppe (Paul Smith), the previous owners, and I have done a few bits and pieces myself.

paulgrey - August 4th, 2004 at 07:36 PM

does any one know where I can get rear pop out windows?.

Dasdubber - August 4th, 2004 at 08:42 PM

Popouts for your model come up regularly on thesamba.com in the classified sections as well as ebaymotors.com - pretty cheap compared to the early ones.

There are sets of the late model beetle ones floating around in oz too - so maybe post a wanted ad in the parts for sale/wanted section (if you haven't done so already).
