57kombi, Inside and Top Painted
57kombi - August 20th, 2004 at 03:37 PM

Well Ive started, it is Glasurit 2pac, I have done the bumpers, wheels, inside of cargo doors, engine lid and the cab.
For those interested it is pearl grey, this is the colour name, it has no pearl effect.
I will have to wait for a day or so and then I will paint the top , this will be white.
I will try and load some pics of it so far.

Cheers
Dave

aggri1 - August 20th, 2004 at 05:19 PM

roof, no roof. Roof, no roof!

Wow, that's a grand effort that is. Good on ya!

57kombi - August 20th, 2004 at 06:54 PM

For the newbies, I am taking the piss, the one with the roof off is one I found in the riverland that had been used as a shooting wagon.
No parts worth taking from it and has been left to rot as you couldnt do anything with it,.

Tomorrow the roof

looking sweet Dave.
I'm free on monday night after 7.30, if you want a hand with sanding or anything, give me a call.

jenz58 - August 21st, 2004 at 02:47 PM

Love the colour.....What colour is the interior going to be?

57kombi - August 21st, 2004 at 04:01 PM

I am gonig to do the inside red and grey.
Here are some more pics as I painted the top today.
Painting doesnt take the time its the masking up.
I spent 4 hours masking up and 1 hour painting.

57kombi - August 21st, 2004 at 04:03 PM

Last one for the day.
Monday the bottom gets painted, then on Wednesday I will just finish it off by spraying the window frames and the top of the rear hatch and I will also paint the ribbed section on the bumpers white.

Will post some more pics when its finished,
Hopefully on Wednesday.

Cheers
Dave

Well done Dave, it looks fantastic mate. If you sprayed that, then I'd be happy as a pig in the smelly stuff cause that looks fantastic.. Well done mate.

nbturbo - August 21st, 2004 at 08:19 PM

I will 2nd that-top job.At the speed you are working I guess it will be at Glenelg in November- heres hoping.

57kombi - August 22nd, 2004 at 06:59 PM

Thats the time limit.
I want it to be ready for the show in November, I wont be entering it, just driving it there will be enough for me.
I did this split as a driver not a show pony.

Cheers
Dave

BenettonVW - August 22nd, 2004 at 07:19 PM

In that case Dave, my priority would be driving it there, and if they wanna give you a trophy for your appearance, then so be it?

Dasdubber - August 22nd, 2004 at 07:23 PM

Excellent work - glad to see some more great results are occurring from "home spray booths" - I will be in the same boat soon!

57kombi - August 22nd, 2004 at 07:41 PM

I was quoted 8.5k for a reasonable paint job.
The compressor cost $600.
The Arnold gravity gun cost $150.
The paint I got at a bargain $15 per litre, this was for Glasurit 2pac at S.A. Paint Supplies, they had bought a job lot of various colours from a wholesaler and it was lucky that the colour I wanted was in it.
The differance in painting it yourself is that you care about the final result, if you dont like the outcome you do it again.
I have only painted a couple of trucks and 1 beetle in the U.K. and so I am not a painter by any means but the result has suprised me, it has a lot to do with the prep and using good products.

Will do some more this week, thats another good thing about doing it yourself, you can take your time.
Should be finished by the weekend and I will post some more pics,
thanks for the positive comments.

Cheers
Dave
