Ha...I knew drivin a taxi for fourteen years would come in handy for somethin one day. I wonder how many hours I spent starin at one of those
babys?
Can't beat the soft touch wheels for long distance drivin I reckon..
Rhett, I'll have to get some tips from you re the mdf...
David
Dave if you look closely at the top pic, youll notice the speedo is a late beetle one with the fuel guage in it.
G'day All,
Thanks Rhett for posting replys.
Dave, I've used a later Beetle speedo as I didn't have a Splitty fuel gauge, so will now put a battery condition gauge in the hole with a 3 way
switch to check both batteries.
Dubnut, the roof lining is 3mm MDF as Rhett said with thin ribbed foam backed carpet glued to it (from Clark Rubber). It took a bit to get it fitting
right but the end result came up great.
The wheel is XF Falcon sitting on a modified Mitsubishi L300 Tilt column (see "Fitting tilt steering to Desert Splitty" in Tech Talk) and the VW
centre cap is a cut down mag wheel cap from a Golf.
Thanks for all the comments, we love it and it is very comfortable to Camp in.
Cheers, Ian.
