new rat project
Kafer Lover - October 12th, 2004 at 10:16 PM

My latest member of the family.
I'm looking to try and get in on the road as soon as I can, as a rat looker, with beefy engine and some handling mods. does anyone know how much (or how little rust) you can have to get a roadworthy in victoria?

i think you can have surface rust but no structural rust

VWFREAK - October 13th, 2004 at 11:26 AM

Sweet should look great. What sort of $ did you pick her up for?

Looks good Tim

I think with the rust as long as its not structural you should be ok ?

BenettonVW - October 13th, 2004 at 08:37 PM

Looks good Tim.. I think I know what is brewing for the heart of this thing.. ;)

Tim, I tend to agree with *did*, and say surface rust is okay, but not structural or holes..

Kafer Lover - October 13th, 2004 at 09:49 PM

Yes, thats about what I thought. I may have a couple of holes to fix here and there, but want to leave what I can as is. (most of whats immediately apparent that is)
I have a 2275 that'll go in it, along with some sway bars I bought off here a little while back. Its already on an irs pan.
Some good tyres and a review of the brakes.

Inside I was thinking minimal as well, (its about as minimal as you can get now - no linings, no seats, no headliner...
I was thinking only putting on some door cards and front seats (some kind of race bucket). Maybe a roll bar.

Anyone know whos good in the Melb/Geelong area for roll bars?

Also do I have to put a rear seat in to be legal? I was thinking of just going bare bones.

I'm going to have fun with this one.:thumb

Nice one!

I think if you leave out the rear seat then it will be registered as a two seater, the only implications being that you can only legally carry two passengers :)

I hope to register my rat bug in the near future too.

Cool:cool:

How about bumper bars, are these required?

BenettonVW - October 14th, 2004 at 08:39 PM

Don't think so.. If so, use nerf bars...

Adam_C - October 14th, 2004 at 09:41 PM

go aluminium riveted or screwed into the door n rear, bit of paint here and there..... will go like stink, some old school race buckets or aluminium seats with some padding heheh ooohh yea

spare tyre in the front and maybe the battery in the front for a bit of weight for handling and vvvvvrrroooommmm lol
