A '54 followed me home
fullnoise - November 8th, 2004 at 05:15 PM

I bought this on ebay. Then I drove 1900kms in 48 hours to go and pick it up.

The things we do.

But I'm well pleased with the lack of rust and accident damage.

It's a fair bit better than my silver oval.

This one will either be a spare, a rat or a classic resto.

Here's a shot from my road trip.

Nice work.
I'll 2nd on the dedication. Thats some km's to travel for a car, but well worth it.

Classic is always nice. Will look forward to watching it develop into whatever u decide to do.

Keep us all informed. :)

Well worth the trip.

I'm stoked and I can't wait to go over it with a fine tooth comb and see what's in the boxes of bits.

Look at the way the guards fit. They all actually line up with the apron both front and rear.

Does anybody know where I can find paint codes for 1954. The car's a creamy colour which looks the same as the colour that was originally on my '56.

Also can you buy repro single tail pipe mufflers?

This car looked a treat on ebay. I'm glad someone on here bought it. Well done!

I just found out there's another box of parts on the way from the seller. Cool huh.

Could the original colour be L275 Light Beige?

Her's a link to chip chart images, you may find the right paint colour there.
Good luck and a great find.

very nic find, 10 points for dedication mate. id like to see it classically restored. rats should be left to more common beetles i recon. keep em in good nick i say!

oval TOFU - November 12th, 2004 at 03:35 PM

Great find! You'll have to fill in those exhaust cut-outs though! It'll look much better with the single pipe!

nice one!

Turbo54 - November 18th, 2004 at 01:28 PM

You'll have to fill both if it is to be a 54! maybe hade a later oval rear apron put on.
There is a really nice 54 silver called Stratos Silver. L227 (I think) I was going to paint my 54 this colour if standard but I'm going custom. What month is it? Is it a standard or delux?
Is this the bare metal one that was on ebay for 1500? When you look for a 'w' decklid u2u me, there different than normal, I will send you photos of what to look for,
Thanks

Geez, I only want one oval, and CT has three now........

Nice pickup too, it will be fun (like christmas !) going through the boxes of bits...... enjoy.

one day I will have one........... but not today, unless anyone wants to swap a licensed oval for my 73 ? no takers ? no surprise... :(

Enjoy - if this gets finished to the level of detail that your 56 received, it will be fantastic.
