Well finally after 18 months i have a Splitty good enough to drive NOW, or when i replace the fromt beam, swing axel, gearbox, fit a motor and doo the
brakes.
I fetched it 2 weeks ago and with goin to melbourne for the show i have made a start on it this week, will be on the road next week. (hope)
This bus was in a paddock for 12 years, sat under a big tree, which kept the water to a minimum, there is NO rust, was originally a factory two tone,
VW Blue and Lotus White, the bugger who painted it has used crap paint and i recon i can cut it back to the original paint, but saying that it kinda
cool as it is hance its current name LICHIN,
So for the time being we are gonna clean out the interior (deluxe i may add but missing some cards) and run around in it for a few months.
Yesterday i did the beam and swing axel/gearbox, handbrake cable and some other stuff, i was working on it for a full 12 hours straight, was so much
fun especially when i put a seat in it and had a sit, i felt like a kiddie LOL.
Tomorrow (thurs) i am replacing all the brake lines, fitting the heart and other minor things, i will post photos as Lichin progresses.. she is a
66
When we collected her, NO WHEELS
Temporary Axel
on her way home
Arriving home
Home Safe
Will have a update Friday

I think I'm like'n Lichen. Sorry. :P
Looking forward to more pics as she gets ready to roll.
Squiz....
very nice andy. very nice indeed
Love it...looks super straight and un-messed with!! Good luck!!
keep the pics coming, which years had one set of vents and which year had two like yours?
I spent another day on her today, i replaced the brake pipes in the rear end and added some new boots, yeh yeh i know the rest it shit house but its a
RAT dammit..
here you can see she it pritty straight
Here you can see i sprayed old gearbox oil on the underside before fitting the box, renewed the box oil and a new 6v starter also fitted.
now these tools are a bloody marvel, i removed the flywheel (needed a ned seal) with ease, that beuty is 9 to 1, beats a cheater bar anyday.
BACK TO LIFE, this car has not had a engint in her for 15 somthing years, and the motor hasnt been run for probably 10, she spat out the shite and was
'smokin'
as i mentioned its a factory microbus deluxe and was twotone, here a shot of the colour numbers
And finally for today, You can see why i call her lichin!!
at least no bugger will nick the badge, and i dont have to buy one LOL
Andy
Sweet bro!
That engine bay pre-motor could be mine here.. that blue and all..
Silly question of the day: Where do I find the paint stickers if they were still on, on a splitty?
Hey jim, the stichers are in the spare wheel well!
Andy
looks like a beetle rear end u chuked in to get it out of the paddock am i correct?

After sandig back, sanding back sanding back, sanding back and sanding back, one of the most tedious jobs ever!, thought id spray the two doors and
the front, i did this to get over the boardam of sanding, and its given me a boost, so tomorrow more bloody sanding, anyway will be finished in matt
black for 6 months or when my spray painter can fit it in, figured i'd give it a coat and drive the bugger for a while ay!!
Andy
Is that a 5 peice kit and air compressor from supercheap?? How did it hold up?
lookin good..
looking good andy
lol, super cheap. what you saying, BIG-W thankyou, and worked a treat
Andy
will be in full primer early next week
Andy
Nice work
Hey Bruce i never realised how much surface filler they used in the factory for the deluxe microbus, i have a panel and there is no where as much
filler as in the 'top of the range' busses, this must of given the end product a perfect finish..
Andy
Looks good mate.
Gee you're gonna need some safaris for that thing mate!! LOL
Maybe some raders...........
On it's guts............
Well we was away for 4 days and now we are back we have made a start once more, Vicki my wife is the best little helper, she sands, brings beer, does
a little more sanding and a little more beer, you get my drift, what a great job she is doing, hopfully will be painting christmas/boxing day, gotta
be ready for the falls festival next week..
Andy
you are a lucky man. With a handy wifey too.
Oh and a good lookin kombi - I can honestly say I dont think I've ever seen one pulled out of a field without rust across the front under the nose
!!!
What wheels are you going to run it with ?
Hi Doug, it is extreemly good car, rust is there though, not a huge amount, i am doing a 'quick' job for the time being and next year or so its
getting the full treatment, as for the wheels i have some real nice 15x7 EMPI 5 spokes in black and polished alloy, with 195/60 dunlops..
Andy
very nice.
Quick n dirty paint jobs bring back memories. My father and I once did an entire Baja body from rustwork to painted and on another floorpan (including
some fibreglass repairs too) in 6 weeks, both working 5 days a week as well.
Will look the goods with the 5 spokes on it.
andy u are a legend cant beleve the work u are puting in do u think u will make the falls mate ???? was hopeing 2 go but missed out on tickets but if she makes it ther mate make shore u get pics of the van there
Nice mate, very cool. Sounds like we have similar tastes!
