Finally got round to starting the `60 Rat Bug.
Needs engine and `box which I pulled out today, dropped the back 2 splines while I`ve got the `box out.
Been a while since I did any work on the tribe, nothing better than 40 year old gearbox sludge!!
Can`t wait to start on the Split.

Front view,

Front is going DOWN \/

Do you think this will be low enough?????????
Interior
Nah....
Come on Gra,
You can go lower than that mate.
Set it so the spring plate top sits against the mounting stop when the
wheels are in the air.
Who needs axle bearings........
Hope ya not tryn to start some sort of fad....
Ok, I`ll go lower, 4 splines is plenty though.
No I`m not trying to start a Fad, I`m just expressing my inner self. You don`t have to copy me, it`s fine if you leave yours stock height, just don`t
critisize someone for doing what they want. It`s a free country isn`t it.
Fefuksake.
Gra.
Fitted another motor to replace the knackered old one (only bog standard 1200, cheers Dave).
Also fitted decent gearbox (thanks Aaron).
Then I fitted the axles up to the spring plates and, yeah, low as!!!
Check out the way it crushed the beer can!!..........................

mate that looks hot,
how hard is it to get it that low? i want my 66 to be that low.
Just fill the back seat with sand.
Cheers
Dave
Gettin the back that low is easy, it`s gettin the front down that low to match that`s a bit more involved.
I just repositioned the spring plates 2 outer splines on the rear torsion bars.
The front needs to be lowered and narrowed so the tyres will clear the guards.
Oh and Dave, don`t be silly.
Bricks are much easier!!
that is f**ken hot graham
lovin the low rat... got any plans for wheels or are they stayin stock?
Stock I think mate. I like the bog stock original everything but slammed to the max look.
Gra got the white walls from the beetle you should give them a try
you can have the lot for cheap cheap
new tyres, atlas whites ,and good cond.rims
What size are they Paul, 165`s??
So what can I swap ya??
Some flash trim? Noticed a fair bit of rust on the bottom of your engine lid mate, got a real nice one in me shed!
i think they 145's but sound good about the deck lid / flash kit or what ever
will sort something out
Paul, go the flash kit!!!!!
love the first photo rat a tat tat
Gra they are 165's :0
Here`s some latest pics of the RAT.
I`m working on the narrowed front at the moment, the pics show the front wheels in the mock position. Not sure whether to go for 4" or fuck it and go
the 6"er!!
Looks bloody fantastic though. I`m working on it all next week so hopefully will be at the Day of The Volkswagen in Glenelg next Sunday (6th).
Gra.
Oh yeah, they are Paul`s (resto64) old rims and whitewalls. It`s crazy how the paint has faded on the Bug to a light blue. Flat it back a bit and it
comes up the same as Paul`s wheels (Turkis??).
Cheers for the rims Paul!
