is it tomorrow yet?

pete wood - December 28th, 2004 at 03:56 PM

so what are the benefits?

more power? does it run cooler too?

is it an electronic setup?

baybuscamperkid - December 28th, 2004 at 07:21 PM

nice looking ride :thumb

pyr0 - January 5th, 2005 at 06:01 PM

so what size carbies did you swap 2 ???

pyr0 - January 5th, 2005 at 06:23 PM

yup it'll be stamped on em ;)

Doug Sweetman - January 6th, 2005 at 10:11 AM

They only come in one size from the factory - 40mm. Though if Stan has set up your dual ignition, I'm guessing he has probably jetted the carbs for you too ? In which case they may be different to the stock jets now.

But they only ever came in 40mm

Fossil - January 6th, 2005 at 12:15 PM

sweet :bounce

Doug Sweetman - January 6th, 2005 at 12:20 PM

Oh, yeah - vw engines look mad with 8 plug leads..... good stuff.

pete wood - January 7th, 2005 at 05:29 PM

what is the dizzy on that thing off?

what does the twin spark do for the motor?

where does he put the other spark plug in the head? on the opposite side of the chamber?

ColumBUS - January 8th, 2005 at 03:52 PM

porsche werent allowed to run twin ignition in racecars as it gave them an unfair advantage... thus making it cool!

Craig Paton - January 8th, 2005 at 04:30 PM

Hey Wally

Was this the 1st type 4 that Stan fitted the twin plugs?
Looks way cool! ;)

bugboymatt - January 8th, 2005 at 06:47 PM

mnsKmobi - January 18th, 2005 at 11:04 AM

Excuse my ignorance about twin spark ignitions, but how do they work? Do they spark simultaneously or what? Also, do you have b4 and after dyno figures or some idea of the powre increase?

56astro - January 18th, 2005 at 12:11 PM

there was some discussion about it here

To winerot,

thought you might like to know, after all your raving about the twin plug convo on ya heads, I went to buy some new thongs the other day. Well, when the label said "DOUBLE PLUG" I thought to myself, I have to be on a good thing.
;)
Oh, BTW....the price? $7.95, Pobjoy's got real competition by the looks of things :D LOL

Yeah, but now you have a twin plug engine you can help me trouble shoot.

My new thongs don't help me walk any faster and going up hills is just as hard as it was before. :duh

BiX - January 19th, 2005 at 12:41 PM

does any body now if stan will do twin plugs kits, eg send downa a set of heads and get the second plug whole along with dizzy etc returned to be built at home? or is it only for hi engines?

also what about doing i to performance heads? not stock type 1 heads?

pete wood - January 19th, 2005 at 03:25 PM

If he does, he could throw in a pair of free 'double plug' thongs as an accesory. :thumb

Craig Paton - January 19th, 2005 at 04:11 PM

Hi Bix

Stan is doing my Street Eliminators! ;)

Craig Torrens - January 19th, 2005 at 05:24 PM

Bix,
Stan has just done my Street Eliminators as well, ....................arriving back tomorrow.
(Stan's open wheeler also has twin plugs and has eliminators)

T4's,044's, Eliminators, standard have all been done.

Twin plugs only available on complete engine package.
(unless you negotiate!)

do you think they will make my buggy faster if I wear them while I drive it?
:duh

ummm, I'm sure I fixed all the rust, so not quite. ;)

UncleRudi - February 2nd, 2005 at 04:18 PM

It looks impressive, I like the idea of black, very cool. I can't believe how many great looking VW's are on this site, it's fantastic that so many people spend so much time and effort on these incredible cars, keeping the Vdub spirit alive!!;)

t2 - February 2nd, 2005 at 06:29 PM

to do this do you have to put in forged pistons etc like you would for a blower or turbo , from what i can gather could be wrong, does the extra spark give a stronger bigger explosion therefore giving more compression or am i wrong.

also how will this effect the engine for wear?
and has anyone done a dyno test before and after to check the difference ? just curious is all

bus914 - February 2nd, 2005 at 07:53 PM

I think that the extra spark plug would produce the same amount of compression but faster, as the amount of burning mixture in the piston doesn’t change but the 2 separate flame fronts burn the mixture more efficiently. Hence this setup requires less ignition advance to achieve peak pressure at TDC. This then reduces the chances of detonation and allows one to increase the compression by reducing head cc's to gain more power.
But if you don’t increase compression then you could run cooler and stong on the cheapest dodgiest fuel available.

Am I right?

Your bus kicks arse winerot.

Craig Paton - April 11th, 2005 at 09:21 PM

Hey Wally

What's it like with the aircon on as far as power goes?
That really is a sweet Kombi!
