My Rod
Bugs - January 12th, 2005 at 01:05 PM

I bought this car from Jeff Baker at Gold Coast and drove it back to Canberra on Saturday 8 January.

This is a 1966 beetle with removed fenders, reshaped front end, drop spindles up front, bench front seat, 750mm gearstick and heaps more. The engine is a standard 1600cc twin port that pulls well and motors along nicely.

The current pics were taken by Brian White (thanks fella) with more from me as work progresses.

Lams - January 12th, 2005 at 05:43 PM

where's the handbrake? is it registered to seat 6 people? that is one nice car!!

Kai.A. - January 12th, 2005 at 06:50 PM

looks to me like the handbrake is right next to the gear stick.....

kai

p.s. i still love that bench seat! :thumb

Bugs - January 12th, 2005 at 06:55 PM

The handbrake is upright and yeah it's next to the gearstick, still registered to seat four.

Love the bench seat too, it was sooo comfortable, I didn't mind spending eight hours a day for two days sitting in it.

Will have to see what the engineers say about the seat.

Yeah, you're right, that bench seat is cool.....:thumb

ColumBUS - January 12th, 2005 at 11:21 PM

that is a super sexy car

hmm... do you think youll have anby trouble registering it with those guards on there, or do you have an engineers certificate?

VWFOOL - January 12th, 2005 at 11:36 PM

sweet score mate,. love the car, so unique

Jeza - January 13th, 2005 at 06:00 AM

Bugs

Great rod!

luv the short piece of chrome at the top of the bonnet, subtle and different.

In NZ the cycle guards should be ok for compliance, don't know about Aus, BUT all the lotus 7 kits use cycle style guards- and you guys must have them over there....

Cheers
Jeremy

Wicked car mate. Why would you pay $45000+ for a fibreglass Hot Rod?? Yours is much better.

Dasdubber - January 13th, 2005 at 08:52 AM

Great score....nice price too! Goes to show you don't have to spend your life savings to have a stand out car.

HotRodMatt - January 13th, 2005 at 09:56 PM

Here's another one of it at an appropriate location...

Freddie Fender - January 13th, 2005 at 10:07 PM

Sweet looking Rod, nice shots and loved the one from the Cemetery, very Gothic. You need to do it at twillight...

Anyway, here a pic of my Rod....
