Does postman Pat know you've stolen his van and shipped it to OZ?

LOL :P

twoguns - March 4th, 2005 at 01:36 PM

i reckon big kudos for doing wot you dun. too bring it in is awesome. dont know if it grabs me yet. its a bit of an oddball, but that probably adds to the character. i know its unique, i got a pic somewhere of my lady and my close friend standing beside the one that was at brookie a few years back. you dont see many.

anyway would love to know if it came as expected and how many pics you aksed for before agreeing to buy. how much chattin gyou did. i have seen many a car i would like to bring over, but am very nerevous about the potential to get ripped or stung.

hope you fill us in soon, and give us some more pics.

squizy - March 4th, 2005 at 01:45 PM

Yeah Rhys big cudos to you for bringing this over. You should rat it down to the Nats. Put Traffic on it and off you go....or at least trailer it to nearby then drive in.

So did you take it off the trailer for the run around the block or just sit in the seat whilst someone towed?? :thumb:thumb

Great stuff. Can't wait to see it.

Squiz.....

akean1 - March 4th, 2005 at 01:46 PM

twoguns - March 4th, 2005 at 01:49 PM

i reckon kombi kid, i f you got it down the the central coast. you could blend in with the convoy and drive that baby to the nats for sure. we would all run cover for ya. otherwise if you wanna get it sorted, maybe sort some vintage plates. but id go the pack run for sure.

if i can get lois fitted and running, i am think ing it. youd blend us in wouldnt ya squiz??? ;)

squizy - March 4th, 2005 at 02:00 PM

Mate Sam and I will make sure we fit a Frid and a twinny into the rows of Beetles.....

68AutoBug - March 4th, 2005 at 02:14 PM

a fridolin - type 147 in Australia.... Great Work Rhys..

very rare -- Only 6,139 type 147, Kleinlieferwagens or 'Fridolins' came off the Franz Knobel und
Sohn KG production line at Wiedenbruck Western Germany
This is the same company that made the Westfalia VW type 2 campmobiles....
Fridolin means "tiny toddler".or "Little Boy" in german !!
The running gear is identical to the VW 1200 Beetle made at the same time between 1964 & 1974.... All were Left Hand Drive.... and they were NEVER sold to the public....

Is the front Windscreen from a type 3 ???
Looks like it may be.... That Would make finding a replacement windscreen or Rubber easy....

Congratulation Rhys... on A great Rare Purchase...

I'm led to believe that if you get some '65-67 front drums from the states they will fit onto your front end, since they went balljoint in '65 yet retained the wide 5 pattern, may have to get the spindles too, but definately worth a look into that thing would be mad on radars.

Awesome looking project dude, keep us informed

kombi_kid - March 4th, 2005 at 02:31 PM

hey
lee frids are based on karmann ghia floorpans not beetle ones!!!! im unsure on the front end it sits real nice in the back but the front needs some lowering!!
wes we are currently working on vintage rego and it will be at the nats!!! it would pass a blue slip easy aswell as pinkslip!!!
just trying to tune the god damn carby boy its a pain in the arse!!!
wes we basically seen it on the samba for sale emailed him and spoke for about 1 month via email and have about 30 photos of all the areas that where repiared! we agreed on a price and luckily it was in US$ and the dollar hit 77 cents so he lost out which was our gain!! one of the biggest expenses other then shipping was to get it from his house to the port cause in europe u need a special licence to tow a trailer, so that making it a tilt tray job which was nearly $500 to get it to the port!!!
all in all its awesome to say the least this is my dream car and cant wait to drive it to sydney!!!we will definately be up for a cruise!!! we are leaving coffs on good friday if anyone is passing through or would like to join!

68AutoBug - March 4th, 2005 at 02:36 PM

You would have to check the wheel bearings...
if they are the same as Our >67 Beetles then You can just change over the brake drums....
All 1200 Beetles had Drum Brakes... [in Europe]
same as ALL Beetles in the USA had Drum Brakes.....

You might end up just having to swap over the brake drums..
If You are Lucky....

BUT.. 1200 Beetles were only sold in Europe.... [> late 70s]
Not the USA...
I do believe the wheel bearings/drums/axles on a 1200 swing axle would be different to a 1600 IRS which came out on all 1969> Beetles in the USA.....

Best of Luck Rhys...

Lee

kombi_kid - March 4th, 2005 at 02:54 PM

Octa - March 4th, 2005 at 03:05 PM

That is awsome. I have looked at frids in VW websites with interest, you can make some incredible looking mods on them. I especially like the space they have, is kind of like a highroof squareback :thumb
