Well...maybe my boyfriend, Kevin and I have bitten off more then we can chew but our aim is to have daphine completely finished in 2 months!! We have already bought a crap load of parts and the paint so far.

I am posting progress piccys so you can all see how it is going. And even if you have advice or ideas let me know. We bought the car on March 12th. Then we commenced work on the 14th of March, which was the following Monday. So in actual fact our aim is to complete it by the 14th of May!

We shall see how we go :P

The original 1500 single port engine, which is great, doesn't blow any smoke, and is in very good clean condition...we have come across a 1600 engine which will go in it's place. (If anyone is after a nice engine let me know!)

That's all the pics I have for now, but stay tuned for more!!

Thanks Mick! I will probably only come online to check emails and post progress piccys. But she is coming along very well atm (fingers crossed), and we haven't discovered many nasty suprises so far!

I wish you all the best - it is certainly going to be a challenge to say the least, but you have to have goals ;)

Look forward to seeing the updates.

GL1972 - March 23rd, 2005 at 08:47 AM

I hope you make your target. VW fanatics by their nature get carried away. I told my wife 3 months and took 28 months.

Frequent whippings should ensure the deadline is met.

kick'n goals all the way -

foxy_fuchsia - March 23rd, 2005 at 01:21 PM

hehe, yeah so true...goals ar the way to go. Make you work extra hard if you set a deadline.

More updates over the next few days.

mattie - March 23rd, 2005 at 02:19 PM

my advice is dont buy anything else until youve finished this one!

i had a 57 beetle about 12 months ago i bought a new box recon 1600 brand new twin carbs every thing you can think of to do a complete old skool car then i bought my fasty and i got hooked on that everything i had for the 57 i sold off for cheap and now its just sitting there.

well thats my 2c but take my advice as its the only way to go.

if your gonna start it finish it!

Fossil - March 23rd, 2005 at 03:27 PM

my brother in law has been building a 32 t bucket hot rod and he hasn't met one goal date set in 3 years - all talk and little action unless someone has been there to help him push the scheitt up hill to get it to the top :thumb

Fossil - March 23rd, 2005 at 03:28 PM

Also sick of hearing about I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna do that so now I won't talk to him about it until it's finished :blush scheitt happens

barls - March 23rd, 2005 at 03:41 PM

ill say good luck to you and if you really try you may make it, but i have one point for you
"a car is a project that is never finished they are a constant state of evolution. if you dont believe me ask das

cray - March 23rd, 2005 at 04:04 PM

looks almost exactly like mine when i bought it back in 1999, brings back good memories...

good luck! :)

foxy_fuchsia - March 24th, 2005 at 03:10 PM

foxy_fuchsia - March 26th, 2005 at 10:03 AM

Ooooh gawd.....I have never worked....and hurt so much in my life. I didn't know doing up a Beetle was so much hard work!!!!!!

My a** hurts, my arms hurt, yesterday I looked like a snow woman! How do you people actually like doing this? I know I probably sound like 'such a girl', I don't know how I am going to renovate out house!

Okay I will stop complaining now lol. I will just have to force myself to do it. Does anyone have different ways of taking your mind off how mind numbing this stuff is?

akean1 - March 26th, 2005 at 11:06 AM

just keep your goal in mind, think how much nicer your ride will be when your done, push for your inital 2 months, but dont get disheartend if it takes longer. it WILL be worth the work:)
any more pics?

eirecooled - March 26th, 2005 at 08:43 PM

inspiration. keep a photo of a VW that looks like how you want yours to look like in the area your working at all the time. when things get tough look at the photo. 2 months is a tight schedule. keep your head down a*se up and good luck! :thumb

vwtyp2 - March 27th, 2005 at 10:10 AM

good luck with it.
A wise man once told me "don't look at the job as a whole, concentrate on one section at a time, do the best job you can, then move on to the next section"
It works, you definately see the progress when things on the to do list are getting crossed off.

Again, Good luck.

foxy_fuchsia - March 27th, 2005 at 12:27 PM

This is the passenger side sill, someone had actually welded a strip of metal over it and when we removed it this is what we discovered! Part of the heater channel is rusted as well.......
