Whoa man that's out of left field!

Awesome Rallye, read somewhere that there was a worry about the diffs cracking in those things?

squizy - April 4th, 2005 at 01:22 PM

Nice ride. Great to see some more watercooled stuff coming on here.

only if you never change the rear diff oil or have over 300 bhp.

there is a freewheel clutch in the rear diff which breaks

ruckus - April 4th, 2005 at 02:47 PM

ah ok

It is a beautiful thing. How well does it drive. Have you put it up against any worked 205s?

SteveMk2 - April 4th, 2005 at 10:31 PM

Man, where is this car? I want to see it in the flesh. Beautiful ried, and are those 16"BBS RS I see? Get on VW Vortex Australian regional forum, and come for drives if you are in Australia!!!

Cam - April 4th, 2005 at 10:45 PM

Man thats one tough golf. Love the flared wheel arches especially, have you got any horsepower figures?

ruckus - April 4th, 2005 at 11:10 PM

Doubt it's in Aus. Unless it's an import. They're rare enough in Europe and were never seen here as far as i know?

SKEWtYpe3 - April 4th, 2005 at 11:58 PM

look at the number pLate, does it look aussie?

Fossil - April 5th, 2005 at 05:15 PM

Great looking Rallye

rallye - April 5th, 2005 at 08:20 PM

its still at home in ireland but im living in sydney, i might import it if i end up staying here but i think i have to convert it to rhd and i dont want to do that!

the wheels are 17 inch not 16 inch. they were supposed to have been 200 sets made for vw motorsport for the vr6 corrado racing programe but they were never used

it only put out 170 horsepower at the last club rolling road day

rallye - April 5th, 2005 at 08:45 PM

her is a better look at the wheels stevemk2

Good thinking, sarcastic smartasss. Could have been imported and not registered in Aus. This is the info I was intersted in. Before you start being offensive to other members, you might want to think about what you are about to type, and who you are typing to. Wasting my time, I think!

Thanks mate. I spend a hell of a lot of time polishing the paint, and cleaning the wheels with a toothbrush. They are up for a refurb and 1" lip extension this year.

Man, those wheels are amazing! 17"? That is cool. It looks like there are a few more spokes, but I guess thats cos they are longer. Nice! Should bring it out, for sure.

SteveMk2 - April 7th, 2005 at 09:54 PM

ruckus:
1. It would eat 205's for brekky with awd, and astronomical torque across the rev range.
2. If it were here it would definitely be import. There are 2 Rallyes privately imported into Aus that I know of.

BLUE_62 - April 8th, 2005 at 04:44 AM

MATE - Thats shit hot. I love it.
Unique in all the good ways. Tough lookin stance on the sucker too.

NICE WORK :thumb

Jesus there are two over here?! Must have cost a fortune to bring them in. Would love to see one in the flesh, have you?

I was mainly talking about the twisties with the 205 but point still taken. Just thought it'd be interesting to see how much more effective the rallye would be.

rallye - April 8th, 2005 at 09:44 PM

it hangs on fairly well in the corners!

steve do you know you can get the wider lips now in stainless steel? i got a 2 inch set for my 15 inch bbs rm's for about 500 euro, they would look class on yours and you dont have to keep pollishing bare aluminium

the 17s have a different centre piece than the 15 or 16 which shape the same centre, the 17 has 34 bolts instead of 30

SteveMk2 - April 11th, 2005 at 09:00 AM

Stainless would add heftily to unsprung weight, yeah? IS that through Image wheels? I am looking to make mine 6.5" with a 1" lip to begin with, and later on add half an inch to the inner to come up with the same as original offset but 7" wide. Nice.

I meant in the corners too. The Mk2 was no slouch in handling terms, and the rallye was even better. There isnt too much between a Mk2 GTI and a 205 GTI in terms of handling, with the advantage in the 205's favour.

rallye - April 11th, 2005 at 09:00 PM

i thought the bbs you have would be 6.5 width already? are they golf wheels or mazda mx5?

the rs001 is 6.5x15 et33 as far as i remember.

the stainless rims i got came from germany from schmidt wheels and have 30 bolts, the 2 piece and 3 piece bbs wheels share the same outer rim and are available from 0.5 inch upwards in half inch increments. inner dishes are way more expensive than outers too.

i dont know about the weight of them as i bought them over the net and got them posted to my brother as he is "minding" my mk1 gti for me

pete wood - April 11th, 2005 at 10:43 PM

so what sort of rallies are you gonna enter then :P

SteveMk2 - April 12th, 2005 at 03:31 PM

Mine are RS189's. 15x6.5, et 38. Will be 6.5 soon.
I was concerned with adding unsprung weight to the RS. Mine weigh about 5.5kg atm, and stainless would certainly make them a tad heavier.
I heard you can get rims for about 65 pounds each from AwesomeGTI. Are these made by image?

rallye - April 13th, 2005 at 05:22 PM

they sound like mazda mx5 bbs wheels if they are a 38 offset, the golf ones are usually et 33.

if you order outer rims for 6.5 they will send you the exact same outer rims you already have, you could order a half inch oversize rim which would give you a 7 inch wheel and as they are 38 offset i dont think they would rub on the arches.

you could ask peoples opinions on http://www.dubforce.net  as a lot of the people there have fitted oversize rims to their bbs wheels.

SteveMk2 - April 14th, 2005 at 10:17 PM

Yep, ordering a set of 1" outers from Image wheels in UK. Makes et around 32-33. Should be fine. Cheers.
Have you jumped on the tex yet? We have h20 get togethers...

rallye - April 15th, 2005 at 09:17 PM

i look in there from time to time when is the next one?

SteveMk2 - April 23rd, 2005 at 04:40 PM

In Sydney? Not sure. Canberra ones are about once a month.
