Thought I might put up some pics of what I've been up to the last few months.
Cant really be bothered typing to much but basically I'm making a full bodied off-road sedan, like the Class 11 cars of Baja or the old military 82E
Kommanduerswagens (with out the kubel chassis..)
Hope to be done in a couple of months (famous last words eh?)
anyway Ill let the pics do the talkin, they go from Last October to a few days ago.
Work is moving along quickly so I'll prob keep updating this thread
cheers
chewy
:kiss
Looking great , worth all the effort. Dog doesnt look to chuffed!
Dan:thumb
comin along well. I hope my pan comes up aqs good as yours looks.
:thumb
Thanks guys,
the pan don;t look near that good in real life Blue.. dont know why the photo turned it up so nice.
cheers
what happened to that rod man? :duh
For some reason or another one of the bearing cap bolts was loose, was gonna fix it but let my mate drive the chassis, he gave it a little too much
and it went pop.
The cap was crushed between the crank and valve lifters and the upper porsion was ripped open when the piston stopped in the bore and the crank kept
going.
Good work chewy
Throwing out irs pan if you want it ?
yea maybe Doc.. superbug pan is it?
what kinda nic?
thanks
ye super mate 74L not bad nick but has hole in centre channell but I thought you would only want arse end
Has all IRS if you want it pick it up from Hanks
Or call me 0417 101400
Ah yea I think I've seen that at Hanks..
dunno, Ill have a look next time Im out there
thanks for the offer mate
eek... look at the lack of grip on the front wheel of the xt/tt yammy. no wonder its in bits. i'd be looking for excuses not to ride it too.
haha.
top work.
hows this for inspiration.
you'll be doing something with the exhaust so as to get departure angle, no doubt.
.
cant wiat to see yours. top work man...:thumb
haha yea the XT's got a road/trail on the front.
Recently rebuilt it with a fresh top-end but have an ignition problem, no spark and I cant figure out why
Seen all them pics too, gotta love the oval on the kubel/thing chassis.
:bounce
if you do all you think you can (prob including coil pack) and xt still wont spark or sparks eratically, it maybe the cdi is pukked. had this prob before. rebuild carby multi times, new coil pack ect. was cdi although this is quite rare. to check cdi, unplug it and put it in the freezer for a bit. this sometime makes them work again till they warm back up....
Great tip mate!
will try that tomorrow!
Do you know how many volts the pulse generator should be making?
I was getting a reading of 0.02v using a standard multi meter
somewhere between the computer management thing (finned box, cant remeber its name?) the CDI and the coil that pulse is lost.
got any other ideas?
just scrap the Yam and get a KTM
Hay helter I think yours would look much better with Peco stars or the like so I could have those 914 rims lol
the finned box is your regulator/rectifier.
sorry no idea on what the shoild be reading. my experience is all XR haha.
sometimes with bikes that have a battery, even though they dont have lekky start, they still need some charge or continuity or something. this is why,
as i understand it, battery elimination kits have a big HD capacitor that gets wired into where the battery used to be.
yea, but my XT is elec start.
Its got an SRX donk in it
ktm. haha.
i am too busy keeping the buggy going to bother rebuilding heads on a $12000 dirtbike every 5000km. not to mention that the alloy on the ktms are so
soft that a couple of days on salt lakes gives them serious pitting.
naa, for high performance, high maintenance they're fine. but i just like to gear up and ride dirt for as many days as possible. aircooled
simplicity. trouble is its well time for me to get another. but I am stuffed. no more xr600s, no more xr400s, spose it'll have to be a zook drz400.
they make 27l tanks you know...
BTW, the blue beetle aint mine; unfortunatly. i just got a buggy.
Drz are good things had one for 2 years before kata
Chewy Noels is an absolute legend on a motorcycle if you didnt know
Skelter you look like your into the big adventure riding which is good dont have much time for MXs out in the bush 10ks from cars

off road VWs and dirtbikes. you couldnt ask for more.. (except for stuff that belongs in the bad attitude forum). haha
I've seen his RMXs, never seen him ride.
Id give my left testicle to own his shed and everything in it, maybe even the splitty sitting outside under the tree
Ill have to come out for a ride with yas one day then, when I get an XR.
Very sad to hear they have discontinued the air cooled XR line
My bro used to have an XR350, that was a great bike.
other than a heap of degreaser, what did you use to clean up the floorpan........i am about to do the same thing so any suggestions would be a great help......cheers......vaughn
lots of kero, wire brush, scraper of some description, lots of rags etc... probably would be a better way of doing it but I dont know it.
that 40 year build up of grease crud is a bitch to get off.
helterskelter400, tried the CDI in the freezer with no luck
:cussing
Made the rear apron removable yesterday.. will post up pics at some stage.
Heres a nice Class 11 racer. Swingaxle, King and link bug on 215/75/15's
Mine shall be very simmilar in clearence.
if you are 100% sure its electrical, the first culprit is is usally the coil pack, they get hot and no go. the cdi failing is rarer still. haunt you local bike shops, quite oftern they'll have an old shed full of bitza's for you to raid or know some old feind with a shed of bitzas you can deal with... common bike in 80s so ythere's gotto be heaps around soemwhere.
Yea but thing is the ignition has died with the bike just sitting there, it hasnt been used for a couple of years now since it had top end troubles.
One thing thats kinda strange is when I hook up the battery the plug sparks once, or if I brush one of the leads across the battery post it will spark
as the lead makes/breaks contact??
thanks chewy......mines the same but 32 years of crap buildup
another question.......what paint did you use for the undercoat and the top coat......cheers......vaughn
