looks awesome, congratulations.
i remeber wen i brought my oval home, took me a while to come to terms with the fact i now owned an OVAL!
still hav a grin wen i go out to the garage. any plans?

boersch - April 18th, 2005 at 09:54 PM

yeah i know what you mean.. still can't believe i finally got one :D

so far plans are:
get it registered and on the road

then:
slam it
white walls + dress rings
get interior re-upholstered
start saving for discs and fuchs!

it's a '57 all original except for 3point seatbelts installed and new battery tray welded in.. no rust.. still have original 36horse but it currently runs a 1200.. cant wait to get it on the road!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who felt this way when an Oval had just been bought, spent the hour and a half on the way back home trying to believe that I had one now, and mine's an undrivable POS!!! For the time being anyway. No rust eh?? I wasn't so lucky. Nice car, like to see it when its lowered, enjoy just driving it in the meantime!

VWFOOL - April 19th, 2005 at 12:40 AM

just loved gazing at the dash, seeing the back window thru the rear mirror, all that cool stuff that goes with them

Great score.
Nothin's better than an Oval. Enjoy!
Rob...

Congratulations on the purchase, look great . . I look forward to seeing some more photos in daylight. Know how you feel as I bought an oval last September and really like a piece of history. Are you going to keep it std ?
Bill

Turns out it's a cut'n'shut jobbie.. not as "all original" as he insisted. Not much you can do about that unless you want to take a panelbeater around to every car you look at :P Seemed like a decent bloke, even said he was in the club of vic but meh. At least there's no rust (yet) and I won't feel guilty about modifying an original car.
Now the plan is to put it on a later model floorpan with disk brakes, 12V, 1600 twin port etc.. lower it and find some nice 4 stud wheels! Any suggestions? I'm liking detailed sprintstars and porsche 2 liters...

So what`s been cut and shut??
Thought you might have meant Oval section into a Big back window model but it`s got an Oval Dash.

Nice one. Looks all oval to me. Got all the hard to find bits. Some nice little accesories too. VDO gauges and the Hella semaphore replacers. Steering wheel is cool too
Still on the original pan???

jenz58 - May 1st, 2005 at 08:47 PM

Hey boersch congratulations!!! How exciting for you.....have fun

boersch - May 2nd, 2005 at 03:57 PM

Cut'n'shut from just behind the windscreen in between A and B pillars.. in other words it's 2 ovals stuck together. Had the work checked and it's safe... The guy who sold it reckons he didn't notice anything which I reckon is &^*(# seeing he got it stripped and painted it himself... Wasn't after a fully original anyway so I guess I'm happy. No way I could tell if the pan's original.. and if it is - to which of the 2 ovals? :P Even the "original" 36 horse he gave me ended up being a 59 but I couldn't expect any more I guess!

Enough whinging.. "Fritz" should be on the road within a few weeks, can't wait!

VWFOOL - May 2nd, 2005 at 04:11 PM

despite the cut and shut its a very ncie oval u hav there. i dont mind that steering wheel either, very nice, congrats

VWFOOL - May 2nd, 2005 at 04:12 PM

id keep it on the OG pan too, just my opinion

boersch - May 2nd, 2005 at 04:45 PM

I would've preferred to keep it on OG if the rest of it was original too. But all of the old running gear is rooted and will need replacing within 6 months so it's easier to swap over to later model with all the goodys now. Get to keep the original steering wheel, seats, etc so you will only be able to tell it's on a later pan by the stud pattern and the straight shifter :D Gonna miss having wide 5 but these 4 stud BRMs are growing on me....

Get the drums drilled to Porsche 5 stud and bang some Fuchs on there :thumb

oval TOFU - May 3rd, 2005 at 11:15 PM

I love it how you're so stoked about having an oval that you take fotos at night with a flash light! I felt the same way when i drove mine home from the country with bugger all brakes - still cant believe I have an oval! Good score dude!
