helterskelter400 - April 25th, 2005 at 01:44 PM

hey man thats is really nice. that brings my eyes some relief after looking at those spaz jap space trucks and space car things on that other post.

are you gearing up for some racing, you got a spot for a #.
what front & rear tyres are you running. ajustable front beam?, swinger rear or cv rear. hows that oil cooler go when picking through tight sections without much speed (ipresume it replaces the std cooler?). what hve you done with front & rear indicators tail lights. different and good.

lots of questions i know but we've just gotta get the low down details on it...

Chewy - April 25th, 2005 at 02:23 PM

Got another f/glass kit and some glass with it

Sandy - April 27th, 2005 at 09:16 AM

Hi guys,
Some specs:
Motor: 1835, counterweighted crank, scat cam (can't remember size), chromoly pushrods, heavy duty valve springs, 1.25:1 ratio rockers, super heavy duty oil pump, 009 dizzy with compu-fire electronic ignition, twin 45 Webers, Flex-a-lite oil cooler on roof, still has original cooler on motor. Heads are standard (already spent too much money). Don't know how much power it has, but the standard clutch couldn't handle it, so now has a custom pressure plate.
Box: Race prepped type 1 IRS, Super diff, welded hubs, h/d carrier, h/d sideplate, 5.14:1 r&p.
Front end: Modified K&L.
Helterskelter, those tail lights & front indicators are Hella items. Rear indicators are from the side of an early model Rav 4.
Interior: Fibreglass bucket seats, half roll cage, VDO guages.
CV's are Kombi, driveshafts are type 3 semi auto. Rear arms are lengthened, strenghtened and have slight negative camber.

karmen - April 27th, 2005 at 09:16 PM

tell me about welded hubs

am brand new to bajas

btw what a list of mods & specs.

my Karmann has an 1835 with irs to take the grunt -very similar to yours.

Chewy - April 27th, 2005 at 09:32 PM

Whats modified about the front beam?

Sandy - April 28th, 2005 at 09:14 AM

Hi guys,
Karmen, The welded hubs I'm talking about are the synchro hubs. Synchros are basically made up of a hub that sits on the shaft, a ring and a sleeve that slides over the top to engage. As far as I know a welded hub just means that it's been welded to the shaft. They must break there when shifted hard, I'm not sure. I bought the box from a mate of mine whom I've since lost contact with and all I've got is a receipt that says what I've put down in my last post.
Chewy, the front end has adjusters, lengthened shocky towers with cross brace, and modified bump stops.

robnjo - April 29th, 2005 at 08:27 PM

Here's a before shot, taken Feb. '94.
when bad things happen to good bugs........:P

11CAB - April 30th, 2005 at 05:34 PM

The 3rd & 4th gears have the dog teeth press fit onto the gear, with hard shifting the dog teeth can spin on the gear meaning now drive, so the dogs are welded to the gear to stop this happening. Later models had the dogs & gears made as one piece.

karmen - April 30th, 2005 at 08:40 PM
