good find!

Quincy1874 - May 4th, 2005 at 01:46 PM

Cheers, I'm really looking forward to this project....
It will fit nicely into our shed, (which isn't built, yet I have managed to fill already!)

SquareD - May 4th, 2005 at 01:52 PM

It looks like it has an Automatic, they are supposed to be pretty durable. What are your plans for the engine, stock or modified?

Dennis

Quincy1874 - May 4th, 2005 at 02:08 PM

Yep, its an auto, no motor.
I will be keeping it as stock standard as possible. Are decent engines hard to get hold of?
Craig.

Are there any Type 3s in the wreckers at Mudgee?? There were a few during the mid 90s.

DH

Quincy1874 - May 4th, 2005 at 05:06 PM

Nope, the local wreckers believe the only use for a VW is on bottom of the ocean as an anchor....!!

:cry

Hard to believe ....

Quincy1874 - May 4th, 2005 at 06:55 PM

Are there any other forums, maybe dedicated to type 3 ??

I love this site, dont get me wrong.... but I need all the advise I can scrape together..:blah:blah:blah:blah..

Cheers.

Those Auto Squares rock! Sold one the same last year, needed the money of course, Loved it to death tho. Great find!

The Auto engines are hard to find as most are ditched in-lue of a manual conversion, they need the kick down switch gear and other stuff.

But great find anyway dude, stay true to it standard equipement and IT sure wont let you down!!

Tough as Nails

Rock On.

Hi Craig,

The best forum I know of that is dedicated to the Type 3 is located on TheSamba in the US.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/

There is also the ShopTalkForums, also in the US.

http://www.shoptalkforums.com/

Type 3 people from all over the world post there. I would add it to your list of favorites. Best of luck with your new car. You can build up an engine easily enough, but you will need to come up with the cooling tin and fan components, but they are available, it is just a question of where. The wrecking yards are also a good place. I think I saw a posting in the General Chit Chat area from a guy how found a yard with a whole bunch of 3's.

Thanks squareD....
I'll check out the links.

What are other type 3 engine options ?
I'm pretty much up in the air, willing to consider anything..

There is also a type 3 mailing list with a lot of knowledgeable people, go to http://www.vwtype3.org  for more info. Great find BTW.
