Cheers, Ian.
Nice work Rob
I will keep an eye out for you in Pako (GJs to be precise)
Beautiful...What an acheivement!
great work Rob
He goes OK. I only got him registered yesterday morning – had to take a day off work – its very difficult to get inspection appointments at
Geelong and I had to see the ‘special’ dude who deals with cars not recently registered.
Re-registration of a long unregistered vehicle is always a tense event in Victoria – while I had all the required paper work, bill-of-sale, RWC and
engineers report etc they get really iffy if they can’t find a previous registration record for the vehicle on their computer database… which is
an average outlook given they haven’t got all the older archived records onto their computer database yet!
Fortunately I had what I think was leo’s old rego no. (on an old RACV membership tag attached to his keys) and this turned up a ‘record not yet
updated from archives’ flag and they accepted that…….
I put the plates on him and then took him for a drive. Dragged off some guy in hot EH at a set of lights (first and last time but ya gotta do it
once) and took him up the Geelong road. He does hold a good cruising speed (which was always the aim) - wound him off the clock (remembering that’s
only 70+ mph indicated on a bus speedo) and held him there for a few kms. Pleasant change from 55mph in a stock early splitbus!
Still got a few things to sort out….couldn’t really test drive him extensively in his unregistered state.
Got some slight front tyre rubbing underneath on extreme locks. Have to sort that out………………
Also coupla rubs on big holes/dips – I haven’t got front bump stop rubbers on him at the moment (repros are like $120 to buy dammit) but it looks
like the ½ inch extra buffer they provide will stop this….
Oil temps only getting to about 150 (F) after a fairly long hard run and are far too cold around town, barely getting off the peg. Will have to fit a
thermostat in the lines to the external cooler (more $$$ - I become very budget conscious after paying all the inspection and rego costs in one
hit).
There’s a rattle in the passengers cab door – I hate rattles!
Still have to rust repair gates and paint. I’ll paint the oval panels in the gates the same charcoal grey as the bumpers. I’m also going to get
little ‘tare’ and ‘gross’ signage done low on the rocker forward of the rear wheel at some stage.
Also have to get the tunes happening!
wow nice ride man, wuv the colour..
As mentioned above by many - fantastic work! I know your pain/pleasure of a full resto, so it must be a nice feeling to finally drive it!
Can't wait to see it with the gates on - that will really make a huge difference.

Super nice ! Like Alan, I cant wait to see it with the gates on.
You might like to post a before and after photo comparison for those who havent read your fantastic resto threads about Leo (those of you that havent,
have a search on Leo - some fantastic examples of rust repair and general body work).
The grin must be ear to ear.....
