StenGuns,
which engine and gearbox do you have in the VW Caddy?
What brand of tyres did it come with?
I am waiting for mine at the moment.

diesel is tops. we get about that milage out of our pug HDi. I don't think I ever want to own a petrol daily driver again.

You've driven the pug then? I didn't drive the golf, but it can't be that much different. Hp and torque figures are almost exactly the same.
The pug is a bit cheaper than the VW too, and you can get it in a wagon, which in the end is why we bought one. Everything else had 1.8 l motors
(astra, corolla) or sucked fuel like no tommorrow (forrester, liberty).
Plus, we got a free $1000 worth of diesel off Caltex coz of some stuff up with fuel supplies for Euro diesels. The funny thing, the pug runs on any
diesel anyway. The jap car makers better open their eyes and start selling diesels here, petrol is more expensive than diesel half the time now.
i drove a number of tdi's and hdi's about 4 years ago (ish) when i worked for avis in the uk.
the hdi's were notorious for engine oil consumption, not a problem as long as you check it and top up regularly.
other than that they both drove about the same.
i feel that the build quality is a little higher in the german cars (vw, audi) than the french ones (citroen also use the hdi engine).
if i was in the market for a new car i wouldn't hesitate to buy any model of vw tdi.
kai
the pugs first oil change is at....20,000kays!!!
:duh
So I guess they got over the whole oil consumptions thing since then.
I'm sure the german cars are slightly better build quality, but you don't half pay for it. :o
