Third kombi seen from 40 during our big trip
Peter_Sedgwick - November 9th, 2005 at 10:24 AM

We travelled from Vic over to beautiful Port Germaine and saw a French couple drying out at this rest area before Woomera.Stopped counting after Bundaberg. Our trip stats were Days away-97, 13,073 kms travelled, visited 37 caravan parks, used 2087 litres at 16l/100k,and fuel up 72 times. Highlights were the rock,Kings Canyon, Darwin,Litchfield, Outback Qld,Undara Lava Tubes,Cairns, and the many highlights down the east coast. Took over 600 pics and itching to plan our next trip. 2l auto purred along and the mp3 kept us singing. Got a service done in Townsville and the guy new his VW's as did a servo in Mildura. What a trip!!

kombi troppo, will get details of my service in Townsville and its location. Found it in the phone book and they had vw experience, and beetles outside. It was on Hugh St just down from Mc Donalds. Will check it out further for you. Been back at work for 6 weeks and seriously missing this outback enviroment.

I think you got "lucky" with your service.....

Even after a new windscreen, and new seal and meticulous attention to the sill it leaked after rough grids going from Charters Tower to Undara Lava Tubes. Taking a tube of sealant and applicator is essential. l didn't have one with me but l do know. The funny thing is l couldn't see where the fault had developed or where the water was coming in.

I know where you are talking about and I very much agree with Mick.
You were very lucky!
You were dealing with a crook and came out ok.

nice effort! i made 1200km to darwin, but blew up my little subaru engine there :( still, i was getting 12l/100km most of the way and as low as 8l/100km through the centre when we were going slow in 40deg heat with 3 people and full luggage.
