RAT[948] Ride.. Finished!! [Are they ever??]
kingroon - January 11th, 2006 at 11:48 AM

I thought I had better post some photos of my 65 TypeOne as it is about to get sprayed up. I've had all structural rust done as well as replacing some of the metal around windows/posts etc. Adjustable front beam, dropped one notch at the rear.. Since it's my only car, I have to put it all back together after each job!

Anyways, the rego plate is original, hence "The Rat" is his name.

Dove Blue is the colour of choice and I'll defo post some follow up photos during and after the spray.. Enjoy the photos!

..File size issue..

kingroon - January 11th, 2006 at 12:31 PM

I have a DogFightClothing chrome lettering in the VW style to go on the engine lid too which will serve as a bit of shameless advertising..

VWFOOL - January 11th, 2006 at 12:44 PM

cool, i like it. r u bringing this to euro day?
where did u get the custom chrome lettering done at?

kingroon - January 11th, 2006 at 12:49 PM

Hi,

Yeah mate, definately locked that in.. See you at the Stadium!

I got the lettering done from a guy on Ebay.. I'll post up his store when I find it! Pretty reasonable too, any wording [obviously size limits forthe curve of the lid/bonnet etc.] for about AU$60/70..

VWFOOL - January 11th, 2006 at 12:51 PM

my car looked like urs at the first euro day, all different panels, the old geezers love that shit, has them scratching their heads. :)

kingroon - January 11th, 2006 at 01:02 PM

Haha it turns so many heads on the Northern Beaches in Sydney it's unreal.. I wonder if they look at it and think "how did that thing get rego?" but I love it.. It's my first VW and having had it for nearly four years, it won't be my last..

I wish I had all the equipment/time/money to do a full floor pan up resto.. Maybe with my next one

DRA93N - January 11th, 2006 at 01:11 PM

Thats pretty cool man, like ya work!

I wish I knew how to put up pictures of mine, its a 64 rat bug to. Still has a bit to go before rego though.

Der Kafer Trieber - January 11th, 2006 at 09:04 PM

thats tops, love that look, did you have the rear wheels widened? looks great:smirk:

lohoon - January 12th, 2006 at 07:02 AM

Yeah thats old sckool kool. What size are the rear tyres?Thats fat!

kingroon - January 12th, 2006 at 10:30 AM

Thanks Der Kafer Trieber! I had the wheels professionally done yeah..

I guess it is a fairly Old Skool look, I've always loved that Slammed&Wide look.. It sits so sweet eh..

I have some left over pieces too which I'll post up here soon; engine lid, two wheels & tyres, one piece glass etc..

I think they're 225s on the rear lohoon, I'd have to check. Sweet pair of tyres though, two rain channels etc. If only I had a 70s 2.4 in there from a 911T to do them justice :dork:

kingroon - February 20th, 2006 at 07:06 PM

jo_tas - February 20th, 2006 at 08:46 PM

Looks shweet!

Got the link for that guy that does the custom badges yet??

kingroon - February 21st, 2006 at 08:10 AM

Yeah VWFool, the weather has been against me most weekends since I started the job.. High humidity and the promise of a thunderstorm hampered progress.. Pearl Beach here we come!

Thanks for all the great comments guys, it's good to hear for sure after all the hard work!

Hanging the passenger door today so will post some more photos when I get all the chrome buffed and mounted.. I've got some custom chrome lettering to go on the engine lid too which is really gunna set this ride off

kroozzn63 - February 21st, 2006 at 08:34 AM

65busser - February 21st, 2006 at 08:48 AM

Nice ride. Love the plate too.

XXX-1.8T - February 21st, 2006 at 09:38 AM

nice bug!

call me blind but i cant see the chrome letttering everyones talking about :duh

kingroon - February 21st, 2006 at 03:52 PM

Hey Jo_Tas, sorry about that, here si the guys listing on Ebay:

http://cgi1.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MakeTrack&item=4615299933

He makes bespoke stuff too [as I have done] for a little extra.. He's over in the UK so you'll have to deal with postage too [although I don'tremember it being all that much]..

XXX-1.8T, it ain't on the lid yet so you're not missing anything! Completion photos at the weekend hopefully..

Der Kafer Trieber - February 21st, 2006 at 06:40 PM

still loving that look, i was wondering how wide your rear wheels are, and what size rubber you've surrounded them with, and profile to, i've been looking @ new wheels but the perfect option might just my stock wheels but widened!

kingroon - February 27th, 2006 at 11:50 AM

Put him back together and he looks awesome.. I am so stoked with the whole job..

kingroon - February 27th, 2006 at 11:52 AM

For my first resto [albeit a fairly soft one i.e. non-ground up..] I cannot believe the sense of achievement.. I really would like to tackle a split dual cab or kombi.. Maybe later in the year, time to enjoy this one first!!

kingroon - February 27th, 2006 at 11:54 AM

.. I'll post some of the interior too.. It's mostly original seat wise, but new paint and chrome detailing really set it off..

VWFOOL - February 27th, 2006 at 11:56 AM

well done, looks very nice
looking forward to seeing it in the flesh
