serves a purpose. no leaky rotting canvas, isuppose.

Liam_81 - March 29th, 2006 at 11:23 AM

we have a spare roof, so we are going to chop that one and weld it in, totally gut the interior and get it cleaned up.

_dmb_ - March 29th, 2006 at 01:05 PM

as i was clicking on the link i thought "no splitty is ugly"

i was wrong
will look good with a proper roof :thumb

VWFREAK - March 29th, 2006 at 02:31 PM

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, different

mackaymanx - March 29th, 2006 at 03:07 PM

It may be ugly but it has individual character. how many others around are there like that.

77bay - March 29th, 2006 at 03:08 PM

I especially like the gas bottle mount. How about putting the spare on the other side and go Baja.

Liam_81 - March 29th, 2006 at 04:09 PM

we have named it KID after "KID AND PLAY"... guess which one is KID...

there is probably a reason for it...

can't wait to play Queen with this one "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!!"

baybuscamperkid - March 29th, 2006 at 05:51 PM

never seen one of those roofs on such an early model. i had one on a late split (65?) as does a guy in Tassie, believe the fibreglass roofs were made in melbourne somewhere. also interesting to see it is a micro, mine was a panel and my gas bottle had a prupose built roofrack. looks to be in pretty good shape overall.

pete wood - March 29th, 2006 at 06:13 PM

I wouldn't be too quick to chuck the roof. Be worth finding out who made them and when the conversion was done. It looks almost as good as the factory hightop...almost I say. Certainly different to you average bear, and I usually hate pop tops.

I'm with 77bay too, love the gas bottle mount, but don't go baja!

wibble - March 29th, 2006 at 06:41 PM

Off with its head I say!!! Looks pretty straight.....

Liam_81 - March 29th, 2006 at 07:07 PM

haha... as soon as i get that roof off, im going to hit it a few more times with the ugly stick.

You've got the collar too tight Pete ... just build a really really low trailor out of it....

kroozzn63 - March 29th, 2006 at 09:05 PM

Liam_81 - March 29th, 2006 at 09:37 PM

will see how carefully we rip it off, if it comes off in good nick... may swap it with you for some of your striping skillz???

Liam_81 - April 5th, 2006 at 02:02 PM

okay, the roof we thought we could use was, well... fucked. We are on the search again.

Whst do you want for the semaphores and the rear centre brake light? And the front bumper?

Liam_81 - April 5th, 2006 at 03:10 PM

pretty sure the driver side semaphore is rooted...

i will ask my brother about it all, we are heading to narooma so if you want anything we can take it with us then?

Liam_81 - April 5th, 2006 at 03:17 PM

just got off the phone to him, the semaphores are up the ass... BUT he has another working pair lying around, i will get you a price on those and also the rear brake light, as for the front bumper... you can see the pic can't you??? that dent won't buff out.

MikeM - April 6th, 2006 at 08:03 AM

david - April 6th, 2006 at 09:54 PM

did you see the bus that roy saved ,stash it some where put a tarp over it and keep it for a rainy day, they don;t make em any more

Liam_81 - April 7th, 2006 at 08:31 AM

Marty has already saved about 6 splitties, one is in the paintshop getting built to original, the next he is working on to get it a nice and low cruiser and then there is the camper. We need parts to help get these other projects rolling along.
