These pictures were taken obviosly after I removed the windows, guards, bonnet, interior and dash parts. This here is some of my crap which I have on my roof/wall! (Above the bonnet on the roof is a decklid!)

oval TOFU - April 16th, 2006 at 12:11 AM

that rust loks nasty! But the decklid colour - I like! Is it going to be resprayed in that kinda metalic grey?

wish I had room on my shed's wall to hang panels!

Volkswagenboy - April 16th, 2006 at 12:23 AM

Yeah, That's the colour I want to keep, but it's a Blue-Grey-Metallic. (It kinda looks like Jak Rizzo's colour though, don't you think?) I love it, the rust shouldn't take much though.

bajachris88 - April 16th, 2006 at 09:49 AM

Had heard his plans a while ago. This dudes got some good plans for it.

Just remember the seatbelts mate, cause this things gonna be flying. So gotta take me for a ride one day when u finish it. U can drive my baja for a day, and i drive ur supa dupa bug :P

Volkswagenboy - April 16th, 2006 at 10:59 AM

Yeah Karina, I'm planning to set it up as a street legal circuit racer (Lightwieght, great handling, rollcage, no interior and some horsepower) But it obviosly is not much of a racecar yet, hey Bond. But it will get there soon enough! Hey Chris, I'll have to take you up on that deal one day! (Maybe oneday we'll both finish them!) But don't worry, I'm planning to use 4 or 5 point harnesses!

Volkswagenboy - April 16th, 2006 at 08:56 PM

Hey, I removed the decklid and firewall today, gonna start working on the radiator in the back. (Anyone know where to buy a cheap aluminium radiator, roughly 3ft by 16 inches?)
Thanks to Chris for selling me the rear clip (Apron and Bumper bracket mount assembly)
Soon enough it'll be a bolt on unit.

Volkswagenboy - April 16th, 2006 at 10:33 PM

buzzbug - April 17th, 2006 at 03:08 PM

Volkswagenboy - April 17th, 2006 at 03:10 PM

Yeah, definately gotta get me some of those! Thanks for the pic.
-Staggers.

sinecure - April 20th, 2006 at 11:05 AM

For the radiator, it's likely that an industrial radiator mob can build you one to your exact specs much cheaper than buying and adapting one. I did this for my Datsun 1600 - got a complete brass radiator built to my exact spec for less than $200 (ten years ago - but a car custom aluminium builder quoted me $600 at the same time).

Try this mob:

koolkarmakombi - April 20th, 2006 at 11:30 AM

Or get a radiator from one of the front cut importers for a less popular model. The wrx van dude got a huge daewooo one with thermofans for $180

Volkswagenboy - April 20th, 2006 at 07:22 PM

Cool, thanks guys I'll look into it.
-Staggers.

66deluxe - April 20th, 2006 at 07:54 PM

What engine you going to use?

Volkswagenboy - April 20th, 2006 at 08:08 PM

Most likely an EJ22 SOHC, but if I pick up something cheaper other than an EJ22 (Say an EJ20 or something) then I'll use that.
-Staggers.

bugbrained - May 4th, 2006 at 09:29 PM

hey staggers in tradelink drive theres a aluminiun boat builder there ( aquamaster ) he was doing aluminiun radiators for a guy , cutting up damaged ones then rewelding them . call in and say hi ask for paul the owner he might be able to look after you
cheers bugbrained

Volkswagenboy - May 4th, 2006 at 09:37 PM

Okay, thanks!
-Staggers.

blue_bug - May 8th, 2006 at 01:32 PM

here in the states they got ej25's in the wrx i think...not quite sure though...but that thing will fly with the ej20 or ej22...

Volkswagenboy - May 8th, 2006 at 10:32 PM

I hope so!
Here's an updated picture, no nasty suprises yet. There is rust though, but at least I know what I'm up against so far...

Volkswagenboy - May 20th, 2006 at 10:40 PM

Okay,
I have the oil coolers and radiator dummy mounted now (Using two Magna oil coolers and a Magna radiator)
so soon I should have the air ducts made up.
Plans for Susie have slowed down after buying a V8 LandRover and planning Valla holiday, but as soon as I'm back in August I'll be saving for an engine!
