nice well done:thumb
very nice well done, looks like a good clean car.. sweet
wow, she looks great, especially after living by the sea! there should be a few good bugs down there, there was enough german and austrian families there buying them new (my family included)
that aerial when fully extended would be good for giving J walking pedestrians a clip behind the ear :thumb
Joel
hahaha... i looked at that yesterday... thought the aerial was bent.. but just the way its mounted. could put an electric one in for the pedestrians.. hehehe
Nice one! :P
Well we finally got around to doing some work on Jane....
The motor has been rebuilt to a 1640 with various new bits and pieces and still awaiting a new carb to go on her then she'll be perfect.
Its time for a rebuild on the rest of the car so we started last weekend to dismantle her ready for painting... it will be a full inside and out paint
job, new interior etc etc... will be posting pics as the build happens.
here are some as we dismantled.
lello watching on anxiously
and on the trailer off for the face lift
Ohhhhh bye bye Jane !!!! :kiss
Glad you took her away while I was at work, I would have cried :cry she looks so sad on the back of the trailer !!!
i know... but at least she will come back looking good.
Be careful, those things can breed
She looks so sad and forlorn.... but it'll be good when she's back!
I am so so so looking forward to getting her back! When we took her out to meet the doctors doing her facelift, she was very excited to see all the other vee dubs in various stages of their own facelifts ...... am missing her already!!!!!
Damm that looks clean, nice score
thanks all... upon closer inspection from the painter he is impressed that the rear sections near the rear window dont appear to be rusted at all...
they are going to remove the foam crap in the tail section and up the sides and seal it all up to prevent rusting later.
The only spots he could find some rust was in the top edge of the bonnet, in the rh front panel where the fender bolts go in (two spots need repair)
and just below the petrol cap needs further inspection as the paint is cracked.
so all up it sounds promising for the panel beating/repair side of it.
we cant wait to start getting all the bits and pieces for the assembly etc...
dashboard went off on monday for repair and should get it back this weekend or early next week.
we went to see her today and check out some interior panels that were in stock. engine is now out so i will go on friday to get it and return it home
to work on the tinware (going to powdercoat) and rebuild the alternator etc..
the front end has been in a light bingle at some point (tell tale signs on the bumper which we queried) and panel beater says it has pushed the nose
back so they will fix all that up to align the bonnet etc..
have all of her bits and pieces in the garage awaiting inspection etc so will start that next week at work.
Looks good
What colour are you going????
we are sticking with white... tho it will end up being a brighter white.
i have the speedo in today ready to strip and fix - the trip meter does not turn and the front glass is cracked. also the ring needs to be pulled off
for painting to match the rest of the dash inserts.
rang the dash people today.. .am picking it up in the morning and picking up the motor also.
will post pics tomorrow
I thought you already had the engine going?
yep... engine is a goer... i had to pull the motor out for the paintwork anyway... so its out and gonna powdercoat the tinware etc.... maybe overhaul
the alternator while its out and touch up a few things o and new carbie to be fitted..
really wanted it out so that the fire wall could be painted car is getting full treatment inside and out , under guards etc. and all the sound
proofing in engine bay could be renewed etc. thinking of chrome dress kit too.
so lots to do. but all good fun.

we went and saw jane again on sat... picked up her motor and picked up the dash on the way out there. dash has come up a treat... all repaired now so it'll look great back in the car. Jane has had some repair work done on the front end... she's been in a bingle at some stage - figured it when we bought her as the front bumper mounts were bent before they go into the body. So that's all been pulled out to the correct position. they found one of the internal panels in the front was just blowing in the wind so that has all been welded up. the rust in the front right fender bolt hole section has cut and repaired and the join at the drivers door was out of alignment so that has been aligned correctly. the metal strips that hold the rubber seal for the bonnet have been replaced and the top stip accross the bottom of the window will be replaced next as it has sections missing etc.
a few shots
and heres my little helper - tho he seemed to have other interests on the day.

This is gunna come up a treat!!
You doing any suspension work??
Wheels??
i am hoping to sort out some suspension work with it.... new balljoints, tierod ends, maybe pull out the beam and narrow it, put adjusters in it etc... haven't decided on the mags yet as the ones we want are hugely expensive and depends on whats left after all the other bits we want etc. lower the rear end also.. hoping to go discs on the rear... new brake lines... fix up steering box etc replace steering coupling, damper, new shift coupling etc etc etc.... and it goes on....
I want full Chrome BRM's and I don't really care if I need to sell Blutopless to buy them!
pffft.... you wont get enough for the wheel nuts!!... im a used model....
went and visited our baby again today... repairs are ongoing with the strips that hold the rubber seals for the bonnet being done now....
and some rubbing back of the paint work now starting...
roof section
bumpers have been delivered and to be checked to see if they can be repaired or easier to replace... then they will be sent for rechroming.
another update.....
went out today to see her sitting in the paint booth ready for undercoat...
guards are already done...
and heres what the rest of her looks like before painting begins...
all the rust repairs in the front have been completed and the accident damage repairs have now been ripped out and redone properly.
