My 64 Daily Driver, Alberts on (update 13 Oct)
HGFS - May 6th, 2006 at 01:39 AM

At last!!!!!!!!

Got my 64 back on the ground tonight, for the first time since about December, gotta say the look exceeds my expectations.:thumb:thumb

Geez those 135's are small!! Thanx mattie / steve89

Truth be told theres still a few bits like tie rods that need re-connecting, and still more degreasing, but I've been dying to see it on the ground, and ON ITS GUTS

few more, its narrowed 2 inches btw, plenty of tyre / guard clearance with the 135's

HGFS - May 6th, 2006 at 01:43 AM

i just cant get enough!!!!!!

HGFS - May 6th, 2006 at 01:51 AM

Yep the tape measure only fits under the nose by about 10mm. Rear isn't on jacks, its on the ground & still standard height. That'll change tho'

The car is covered in dew btw, it's bloody cold tonight, the car don't fit in the shed coz the oval is in there. Only got finished at 12:45 am, oops, sorry neighbours.

Oh well, gotta go feed the baby that i've been holding all this time!!!:P

VWFREAK - May 6th, 2006 at 07:24 AM

Nice, what did the 135's set you back and what are the designed for?

65busser - May 6th, 2006 at 07:50 AM

looks sensational. Like the no caps no bumper look.

beerdoc - May 6th, 2006 at 08:23 AM

Great look but please use beer can (mt) for height :thumb

vwtyp2 - May 6th, 2006 at 08:56 AM

steve-89 - May 6th, 2006 at 10:38 AM

hey greg, that looks awesome, did the battery work ok.
i really need my charger back though, coz the notch battery has gone dead so i need it to recharge it.

looks great
steve

VWFOOL - May 6th, 2006 at 10:40 AM

feels good huh, feels right doesnt it?
good job, once the rear comes down the front should level out a bit more and not be so low, thats when you steal a council sandbag and throw it under the hood. :thumb looking forward to the pics.

steve-89 - May 6th, 2006 at 10:56 AM

Yeah I feel bad about the charger, will someone be home tonight so I can drop it off, sometime from 7:30 to 9:30pm?? Battery was dead as a doornail but you get that. Forking out for a battery is one of the last things I will need to do to get it on the road.

Let me know about tonight

Cheers
Greg

got the front tyres from mattie secondhand for something like 80 bucks. There's enough tread left on them for the minimal driving I will be doing with it.

Dunno what car they were on as oe but they are Michelin 135 ZX. A standard rim is just a bit wider than it, you can hear the rim touch the ground if you lay the wheel down.

They are really small overall diameter which helps with guard clearance. Being a skinny tyre it looks good IMO but don't know if there will be much grip in the wet?? Had heaps of clearance dramas on my last 64 which was nowhere near this low, using standard width beam and 165/80's which are the same overall diameter as a standard radial tyre

LOL beer can wont fit unless its lying down. Got a couple of stubbies lying around but no cans. Will take a pic just for a laugh.

boristherat - May 7th, 2006 at 12:02 AM

Hey man, nice ride!
Is it on the road? You should come out for a Ratzenmore run. Just an informal thing that a few of us on this forum have as well as some other marques also.
Great rat sir....great rat!
Darren

HGFS - May 7th, 2006 at 02:54 AM

Hoping it will be on the road in about 2 weeks. I've had that hope for a couple of months though so we will see. Never heard of the rat run when are they on. Havent been to any get togethers for ages hopefully can find the time when the car is on the road, time's always a problem (or timing).

sinecure - May 7th, 2006 at 09:12 AM

The zx's are often used on the front of street/strip drag cars. Good price as they retail new for $150+ each.

Notoriously scary in the wet, though.

5lam - May 7th, 2006 at 08:47 PM

That thing looks sweet dude! Can't wait to see it done.:thumb

I'm pretty sure the tyres are the same as the ones on the front of the Smart cars. I know they're a 135/15 anyways.

PrettyBlueBug - May 8th, 2006 at 01:10 PM

Those wheels look tiny!

VWFOOL - May 8th, 2006 at 03:35 PM

135 michis were for the citroen 2cvs, not the smart cars.

Very cool ride. Me like!

dragbug - May 8th, 2006 at 11:07 PM

They are the old tyres and rims from one of my cars.
Have plenty of new 135's if you need more Greg.

decked dubby - May 8th, 2006 at 11:07 PM

That is super cool....me like.:tu:

HGFS - May 9th, 2006 at 09:24 AM

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm hanging to drive it. Just wish it would stop raining when I have some spare time so I can get it finished. Rear end has to come down a spline or two soon, still got to run another fuel line as the old one is cactus.

Dragbug you have U2U

Cheers
Greg
