Seagulls 1960 bug called DRAGON
seagull - May 20th, 2006 at 02:31 AM

Well My Dragon has come out of its cave and seen the light of day .

I have landed a 1960 beetle from the Tompson boys .
The beetle was saved from the crusher a few years back and placed in a shed to keep it dry .

The run down >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

some of the parts are missing ( see wanted in the for sale section here )

The in side of the bug has been striped out , head lining , door cards , floor mats >rat shit > dead snake > used condoms & there packets

The floor has the the orginal paint on it & is mostly rust free .Some rust in the heater chanels but I get to this when I left the body off the pan .Paint is shitty but over all the car is solid & doors shut as they did when the car came off the assembly line .

What I am doing to it

Fist throw the 1300 cc Vw motor & swing axle away its too slow

The new Motor will be a Suabru EJ20 quad cam turbo 16 valve unit coming in from Japan from a wrx or STI wrx .
I am making a full 316 ss headers for it to drop some weight from the rear & make it look realy smart under there

I have yet been able to work out the gear box I am going with & have a few to select here from .

I going to fit air bags to this machine so I can get it low on the road , then push the butten to lift it to bring in down my drive way to put it to bed .

I have collected the following to make this machine stop
Front Nissan r32 ? 4 pot calipers
rear ford ea /eb with cross drilled rotors

Wheels I have not had a chance to look whats out there .

The inside of the bug will be back to stock , seats will be stock , but I will make the drives seat be able to tale me race seat for drag meets

This Dragon will fly

Need a G50 as I have an order in Japan for one or 2

malcolm - July 8th, 2006 at 12:21 PM

what about getting the rear alloy suspension arms,944 turbo alloy arms will give same track as irs beetle .G50 4spd good for turbos as well :yes:my wife is going to buy me a plasma cutter or a tig welder :birthdaynext month.

humpty - July 8th, 2006 at 03:00 PM

When you widen the track you will have problems with tyre clearnace in the rear.... Please don't stick crappy f/g guards on the 60, Neil.... It just looks so crappy.... Stick with the stock guards and make the stuff fit.... You know I can get 225/50-17's under a stock rear guard with IRS.... That's plenty of tyre for most.... And more than enough for a light weight VW!....

seagull - July 9th, 2006 at 10:27 PM

Simon it will be stock

The Dragons home !

& The chop has started

seagull - July 9th, 2006 at 10:28 PM

seagull - July 9th, 2006 at 10:39 PM

Air tools a sweet .

Removed the pannels to see what I had .
The out the front to cut up more of the 1966 .I cut the car in half with the 9" as to get the rust repair sections .

Seagulls chop shop .

Rear will be marked out monday , then out the front with the pressure cleaner to get rid of the grease on the box & beam .

Making the jig for the front beam & rear jig for the IRS .
Roll bar steel under way .Adapter plate & fly wheel on the shelf .ECU in a box for shipment

humpty - July 9th, 2006 at 10:41 PM

Hows it looking under there now the guards are off?

seagull - July 9th, 2006 at 11:00 PM

There is a bit of rust mate .I cut the heater ( whole driver side side out of the 66 )

I can cut & weld some plates in .

I also just went for a walk down the road ( bin ) as there was a 316 ss pressure tank , it said SPERM TEST TANK LCVRTY 1 .

LOL its now the tank for the air bags ! just washed it out no one will know :party
