old post:
Hey i'm Dan. Just realised i didn't have a thread in here
Mine is a 64 Beetle. Pretty much stock apart from a 1500, and whitewalls. Oh, and the ragtop that's in it now.
edit - and the new paint!
it's a Britax one from the 70's apparently. I would've loved a weld-in one, but that's more effort and $$ that i cbf with - let alone tackle
myself. And this is just a bolt in - nice and easy...well, 6 hrs easy.
cutting a hole is hard.
and pics of it installed.
and a few pics i took today.
and yes, i know - it needs to be slammed, let alone painted!
not a bad weekends' work - especially whenh it's coming up to summer

looks good mate, dont worry about the paint just slam that baby
:bounce
Looks great. What colour do plan to paint it? Did a good job on the sunroof. Are they hard to find?
Brendan.
I drive past it today... maaaaaaaaaaan, you gotta go the slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamm!
Slaaaam slaaaaam - slamslamslam.
Good to see you followed my directions for fitting the roof.
Forgot to give you your free sunscreen with the clip! LOL:thumb
This is the plan:
LOL @ sunscreen. The jigsaw idea was a very good one. i had to hack a bit more from a couple of spots at the front with an angle grinder, but apart
from that was all good. Cheers again
And yeah, i know it needs to be lower. Just have do decide how to do it (adj beam/drop spindles/both) and have the money!
Looks sweet mate. Thanks for the install pics.
where do u get these rag top kits from? can u still get em brand new? who supplies em? how much $?
especially a bolt in kit...

i got it from BUGBOY - it's a 70's Britax one - who don't exist anymore apparently. But that's the reason i got it - it was bolt-in
love the mockup - esp the white highlight on the door.. DO IT. All you need is an adj beam, or just a beam that has had it's torsoni bar mounts turned the right amount for a ... hmmmm 3.5 inch drop by the looks of your bug.. then you just take the rear torsion bars out of the back and install them again a couple splines down! Viola! slamm city!
Ok, who's the poor sucker that's going to help me do it while i watch?
Seriously, soon though. When i stop spending money on my other car. *rollseyes*
the roof looks great and your colour sceam with those scollops on the side will look #1:thumb
I'll supervise.
a few new pics. thought i'd better paint it as i'm taking it interstate this weekend and wanted a little less attraction from the locals up there.
new parcel shelf is visible in one of them.
actually looks a lot better now it's almost one color lol
certainly looks less ratty.. I saw you turn into Orban Rd - i was at the servo in my invisible Civic, otherwise, you probably would've seen me if I had the bug... looking good man..
Will be wicked when it's painted the red and black! :P
new pic:
trip to canberra and back, stopping along the way
Then my t-bar bumpers arrived, so had to wash all the bugs off the car...you've no idea how weird it felt to wash primer LOL
And finally have made a numberplate bracket so that it's not held on with a bumper bracket stuffed throught the horn grille and held on with green
tie wire hehe
Saw you today. Had to give a 'punch-buggy' to the wife, she was too slow.
The sun roof looks hot.
Love one for my beetle.
Also that colour plan look sweet can't wait to see the final job.
Richard
Looks great as is, but love the plan.

Nice lowering job. I really need to get around to doing that.
And i must've missed the Helbus! But i keep seeing bay windows everywhere.
We were in the KOC beetle
yeah stick to that plan ,its perfect
saw it in the flesh today looking good nice to meet you:thumb
Hey Dan, forget the paint, just dump it and be done! Looks great in grey primer, and the ragtop is sweet.
i'm actually thinking of raising it even higher now :p
what kind of mirrors are those? I've never seen 'em...dont tell me theyre another cool Aussie Only item we in the States cant get
they're actually for a motorbike!
Wanted a pair of something in that sort of style, and ended up getting them off ebay
Hey Voodoo, what are you doin posting over here in these parts mate.
