bugboymatt - April 29th, 2003 at 07:21 AM

Looks great mate...

pyr0 - April 29th, 2003 at 11:17 AM

sweet looking ride, tis might sound dumb but is this the bug that was at the fairfield show the otha day ? either way its an awesome looking bug

Herbie - April 29th, 2003 at 12:20 PM

No I am in Queensland and that bug was Herbie down unders bug from melbourne
I havent seen it yet But I hear its nice, and mine isnt registered yet
but soon......
I think there are about 4 or 5 serious herbie replicas in Australia, and a few half hearted attempts too.
I know of one with the stripes on the other side and its a 70s model. still good fun but not real serious as far as a faithful copy.:jesus

Herbie - May 3rd, 2003 at 11:49 PM

Nearly finnished, Took Herbie for a drive to get a roadworthy certificate, apart from playing up at random like herbie did when his fuel tank was full of Irish Cream or Big diamonds in the movies. {All part of the show folks} :o
I got an amazing reaction from other motorists giving the thumbs up and shouting things about herbie, and It was funny to see mums and dads pointing herbie out to their kids {who it seemed much to the dismay of the parents had not a clue who or what a herbie was}, Sadly kids are much harder to entertain these days.

Top job mate - If I were to have a conventional beetle I reckon a Herbie beetle would be it.

It's lookin great and keep up posted on your adventures with your new mate.

OvalGlen - May 4th, 2003 at 02:43 AM

Very Very good.
As i'm apt to say, please send more pics.......say from where you go out,
And if you get any of those wheelstanding pictures I'd love to see them too.:D

Herbie - May 4th, 2003 at 01:37 PM

Once I sorted out rego and some more finances we will surely see some big wheelies, 300 hp type wheelies:thumb:cool::thumb

The_Bronze. - May 4th, 2003 at 02:42 PM

Yeah - Good on ya!

Somebody tell him he's dreaming.

baybuscamperkid - May 4th, 2003 at 06:17 PM

how 'bot the camper next to your beutiful herbie, can u tell us about thsat or is it a surprise?

Herbie - May 4th, 2003 at 09:03 PM

Kombi is the next thing to get the tlc
but I am not in a hurry as I am over doing up cars for while, sick of devoting every spare minute to fixing something.
As for the Dreaming .... I dream of a turbo rotary with water/alcohol injection like my old rx2 coupe good for 300 hp easy, as far as the wheelstands..... I would be very surprised if that didnt do it
{if I gan get a gearbox to hold together for long enough}
especially given I can nearly lift the front off the ground by myself its so light. but time will tell. But I need to save some more money for that.

Herbie Down Under - July 5th, 2003 at 04:31 PM

I like Herbies to be near perfect and that one is. Well done mate.

Just a question why OEP 857. Last I heard was OFP 857 was availible. Still looks great though.

Richard and one jealous Herbie!:D

Herbie - July 5th, 2003 at 05:54 PM

Sadly the website said it was available but when I applied for it, It was apparently already taken and then I got in contact with the owner of said plate and he has it on his ute while his Herbie lays dieing under the house.
I may change the plate yet.
Thanks Richard,
Cheers Tony.

KruizinKombi - July 5th, 2003 at 06:30 PM

Looking good!!! :thumb That last pic is a particularly good photo. :D

helbus - July 5th, 2003 at 06:56 PM

How offended do Herbie owners get when they see a later 12V Beetle with Herbie stickers? Or not worry at all, just satisfied to see more dubs? :D

Herbie - July 6th, 2003 at 12:39 AM

Every one is different, Some would say mine is a far cry from Herbie as the steering is on the otherside and some Herbies are made from new beetles and L bugs, Doesnt bother me, the more the better I reckon. can you fit older front guards to have the right headlights? to me thats an easy way to bring it a lot closer looking to Herbie.
Theres a guy on the coast here with a 70s bug with numbers and stripes and its wildly inaccurate but most people dont care they just see herbie.
I Drive my Herbie to work, where I earn a living from my attention to detail as a prop and Model maker, and so the pressure was on me to make My Herbie as convincing as I could without getting too pedantic.
Herbie is not only my daily driver and transport he is also a rolling advertisement for my Prop work.
Cheers Tony

68AutoBug - July 29th, 2003 at 12:27 AM

Why did You want the other number plate Tony?
I know it Must mean something to You but it doesn't to Me!! I thought You would have had 53 in the numbers....
Its been so long since I saw a Herbie movie, I wouldn't know what was incorrect with the livery apart from being an early model - Early Sixties.... It looks great though and really stands out.... even in a carpark full of Beetles.... Good One.... Tony
I'll have to see all those movies again..... BEEP BEEP

Herbie - July 29th, 2003 at 08:39 AM

Thanks very much.
Well I was torn between a numberplate that read TLB53 for The Love Bug 53 but decided to go with OEP857 because I have the Californian Herbie plates that read OFP857 Yellow on Black, and when in Sanfrancisco I also aquired an original old metal numberplate frame that reads Sanfrancsico European Motors, So thought I could modify the Californian plate to read the same as my number plate and thus bringing the likeness even closer but Sadly the cops explained to me with great entusiasm that this was a great offence that accompanied a grand fine and made me remove the black number plates with OEP857 in yellow with California at the top and then replace them with Black numberplates reading OEP857 in yellow with QLD at the top.
So in hindsight I would have gone with the TLB53 instead had I realised it was such a drama, BTW no one even noticed that the number had been modified so that was not the problem.
I guess rules is rules and we wouldn't want any gullible people believing I had driven from California
Cheers Tony
