New Car 67 Bug
prozac32 - October 16th, 2006 at 07:46 PM

Heres my new car, picked it up on the weekend.

i had a few problems getting it home lol, first the battery wasn't too good so that died just down the road, so i changed that and also noticed the coil was pretty hot,
i drove off anyway hoping to make it home atleast but the coil didnt make the distance, so then i changed that after my girlfriend drove half an hour back to go get one.
So got it going again, another half an hour later i stalled the car and the starter motor went on it,
and with no where to clutch start i was stuck lol, i ended up pushing the car into a near by lawn bowls club and left the car there over night and came back the next day with a trailer (which i should have done in the first place lol).

anyway heres the pics, hopefully it will be running again this weekend :D

neat looking ride mate does she need much for rego ??

prozac32 - October 16th, 2006 at 08:10 PM

nah not really, needs a side mirror, and the horn doesnt work, also the wiring is a littke messy but should be ok. when it was running it ran really well, sounds healthy, tiny oil leak, i'll be taking down to get blue slip once i done those few little things, see how it goes.

pyr0 - October 16th, 2006 at 08:12 PM

are you going to try and get it reagy for the shoot out ?? might be good to round up some of teh campbelltown crew and roll to it ;)

prozac32 - October 16th, 2006 at 08:22 PM

yeah im hoping it will be ready by then, hoepfully they dont give me to much trouble with the blue slip.
be good to cruise over there with some other cars from this area.

Very nice!
Good looker you've got there.

pete wood - October 17th, 2006 at 09:42 AM

they're a nice set of rear flares you have there, are they fibreglass or steel?

baybuscamperkid - October 17th, 2006 at 09:55 AM

nice ride, always some fun in a dub! nice set of widie guards as well, they look like the ones my father had, Volkspower over here in Victoria used to import them.

prozac32 - October 17th, 2006 at 05:26 PM

thanks for the comments.

The guards are fibreglass, they make it look tougher at the back :D

64sparkbug - October 17th, 2006 at 09:43 PM

LOL...it's pretty damn low as it is!

That's the reason for it being sold so soon after restoration heheh. Was gonna be towed as a parasite behind Ron's Coaster campervan, but he didnt think much of the ground clearance so went to another extreme and got a Sierra!

Glad to see the old girl got home alright! :bounce :tu:

Don't much like the look of them ramps tho! :duh

Of course

Got bored and took some more pics.

I haven't really done a lot with the car, changed the rear bar, and a few small things here and there, changed the starter to 12 volt and flywheel to suit.
It is running at the moment but only for around 6-7 minutes then decides to backfire and eventually die all together, cylinder 1 is loosing compression and it has a few oil leaks.
Decided to save my money and just get a new engine, so its still going to be awhile before i get it on the road, anyway heres the pics :D

Just check that your coil wires are around the right way....negative goes to the dizzy.

Sometimes if they are swapped by accident the engine will do as you say.

Also check that the coil you have may or maynot need a resistor.

Cool looking car by the way.

Type3Sicko - February 18th, 2007 at 09:01 AM

Sweet ride Mate! You got wide 5's up front and 7's on the back? I'll bet that goes through the twisties nice and easy :) Keep up the good work, thanks for sharing the pics!

Sioux - February 19th, 2007 at 05:34 PM

what width are those rear tires, and does anyone know if you can purchase those rims from somewhere ?, or would i have to scavenge them from another bug ?

Type3Sicko - February 19th, 2007 at 05:45 PM

Scavenge Sioux! They seem to be thin on the ground, our '61 came with seven's on the rear with 205/65/15 and wide 5's with 185/60/14 at the front, but i'm told 225/60/15 would grip even better. we recently put 165/60/14's up front to ease the king and link pin wear, also makes it easier to steer, Maybe those new smoothies from antique tyres come in 7's, not sure, good luck with your hunt...this is such a nice beetle! :)

prozac32 - February 20th, 2007 at 01:42 PM

Thanks for the comments guys :D

the rear tyres are 245/60/r14 fronts are 195/60/r14. i havent seen the wheels for sale anywhere so cant really help you there.
