65 notch - Work Begins
65notch - December 14th, 2006 at 01:38 PM

Well my post dissapeared because of the whole forum crash so i thought i'd put it up again.

This is my 65 notch that i picked up for my 19th birthday back in september this year with my old man.

After getting it safely home my old man and i decided that we would try and get it started. A little petrol down the throat of the carbie and it fired up for the first time in 5 years, so i took it for a little drive having not checked that the brakes even worked but luckily everything was fine.

So after that i began stripping it down and finding all the hidden nasties that would need to be welded up. Sadly a family member who was a unbelievably good car restorer who was to teach me to weld and repair had an unexpected heart attack and passed away, so the notch sits and waits until i can afford a welder and feel comfortable enough to start on it.

I've never seen that model Renault before it it looks awesome!
The Tempo Matador style and design que's are taken straight from the rail designs of that era, I guess the Splittys do as well.

They are all lovely and you should be very proud!

Thanks guys, yer dads done a great job with the gordini taking his time to get it all done properly (3 years so far)

and hopefully the Matador will live again soon.

Calcool - December 18th, 2006 at 05:06 PM

Any more shots of the Tempo?

How good is the camper conversion I have only ever seen utility versions. A pick from the rear and inside would be ace!

Envy, Envy, Envy

Cheers,

David

Next time im down at the farm i'll try and get some pics of the rear and inside but i highly doubt i will be able to until i can get it out of the shed.

The camper conversion was done back when the car was brought to Aus and was new by coach builders in Melbourne so im told, so i assume it to be of good quality.

All things i will hopefully find out one day :)

I constantly think how cool it would be to build a custom set of safari's for it.... mmmmmmm :D

baybuscamperkid - December 18th, 2006 at 07:59 PM

love the safari idea

customcarconnection - December 22nd, 2006 at 12:13 AM

I know this car. I looked at it a while b4 you did and didn't act fast enuf. Good buy!!! A very genuine car. Trevor is a character tho!!

65notch - December 22nd, 2006 at 07:55 PM

Oh man Trevor is crazy haha... If i we hung around any longer when we went to trailer it home he would'nt have let us take it. Constantly talking about how good a deal it is and saying "look at those tires, thats a good deal" "look at that bumper, great deal"

So did you end up getting a notch at all customcarconnection?

No real updates at all, just got some day light photos of my rusty pile as it is at the moment while we were switching the gordini and it around in the garage so we can get the last few things finished on the gordini.

things never seem to look so bad in the pictures..... oh well, it comforts me to know that the gordini used to look just as bad :D

Well after purchasing the notchback almost 9 months ago i have finally got started on it... only problem when i first got the car was it was rusty and i didn't know how to weld let alone even own a welder

So fast forward 9 months and i've completed a welding course, bought a welder and pretty much every missing piece i needed to complete the notch... so heres my progress from the 2 weekends i've been at it so far

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o226/65notch/notch16.jpg
I didn't bother cleaning up my welds as much because no-ones going to see it here anyway... and heres the other side to give you an idea of what i've been up to...
